Raising cleaner shrimp?

Raising cleaner shrimp?

Is it better to put the 2 adults in a 10 gallon or 38 gallon tank with a heater and sponge filter?:hammer:

Has anyone on this forum successfully bred cleaner shrimp??:hammer:

Not really anyone outside of this forum has successfully bred them in captivity. Only reference I could find to successful breeding was the Waikiki aquarium, and they're not sharing secrets.

Not likely going to happen in a tank.
They spawn every month or two but the fry need to hang out in the plankton for a few weeks and eat diatoms. If you had a large tank outside with NSW it is a possability.
But I still doubt it.

They are very difficult. I am raising Peppermint shrimp but only have 4 at 3 1/2 months old. Read the book How to Raise & Train your Peppermint Shrimp by April Kirkendoll. It also talks about Cleaner Shrimp & the book is fun to read.

Thread and BRs

I read it Luis, have been watching this thread, I remember well the discussions on BRs on it, thats where I met MM.

I wish someone woule make the breakthrough with them, it may well take as much dedication as you have given the damsels.

Louis,

You know the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". Kind the same with reading links ;)

I was trying Senopus back in the late 80's. Never got past about 2 weeks, which was considered good back then. IIRC there were only a few researchers that had managed to get a couple to met after around 180 days. Now there are major food shrimp farms, lots more known about development of our ornamental shrimp, but no one's cracked feasible and repeatable rearing of the ornamental species with high value. Peppermints can be reared fairly reliably, but they are too inexpensive to make a viable business prospect. The cleaners could be a gold mine if an economically feasible method was found, and I'm sure your right it will take someone with a lot of dedication...and the time to do it.

LOL,it was weird that after that link, people kept saying it can´t be done:D
Yes,Stenopus remain undone, except for some dubious report.
I am raising again L.boggessi, the ugliest of peppers, but the only commonly available.Since some time they are not imported here, and reefers want them badly because of the Aiptasia fighting thing.

I read the thread in the link. I read that none made it past the larval stage.

You've made great leaps and bounds toward this and documented it well, and I commend you on your work in this area, but I didn't see any "I have done it, raised one to adulthood" in the thread...

Keep up the good work. I'd love to one day be able to link to your thread and say "It can be done. It's a lot of work, but here's how" rather than "it's not been done in home aquaria" -- which is true so far.

Hi Sushi,
I agree thay the thread was very long and perhaps boring, but did you move past the 1st page?:worried:

Yes I did. I read every page. Perhaps you could point out the post that said they had been raised to adulthood for me?
