Problem with Dashboard and new Foscam IP Camera

I think I bought the wrong camera

I recently bought a Foscam 8910W camera that I successfully hooked up and was able to see through my Apex dashboard. I really liked it but I wanted better video quality so I just purchased and received their new FI9820 720p camera. I've hooked it all up and can see the new camera outside my network but not in the Apex Dashboard and I think I know why after looking at the boxes.

The 8910's box says right on it "MJPEG" compression whereas the new FI9820 uses H.264 compression. Is this why I can't see the new camera in the Apex dashboard?

I guess I should have thought of this before hand, I figured the new camera would be similar to the previous gen.

Yes... You are right. H264 cameras are not compatible with the Dashboard

I did the same thing . Of course I have never been able to get a response from Foscam to return the camera...their customer service is the total pits. I am stuck with it now. I did buy the 8910w and it works well...although I have yet to set up my Apex...that is my project for today. At least I know the camera will work with the dashboard once I get it up and running.

Yah the 8910 worked great, I just wanted better resolution. To be honest, the 9821 is better but not significantly enough to warrant the purchase. It's pretty good in normal light but seems to lose a lot of resolution with too much actinic. I have my camera right in front of the tank.

I think I will keep them both.

There is a snapshot function and I'm curious to see if using snapshot.cgi with the 9821 would work.

I got the 9820 also you can get a snapshot in the dashboard by using

Is not video but at least you get a picture

I just updated my firmware yesterday and was having problems setting up my foscam camera 8910W. I use dyndns for remote viewing and I can view the 8910 outside of the dashboard. Can you provide any help?

What sort of problem are you having?

If you're meaning that you can reach the camera's app where you can view, tilt, pan, etc. then what you are probably missing is that the Dashboard requires a different URL - one that accesses the camera's streaming video output and not the camera's internal app.

Have you looked at the Reeftronics web site and checked out the various camera/URL's? I'd start there.

Sorry, my problem is in the setup. Yes, I can access my foscam camera via my foscam app at home and externally. Same with my apple laptop. But I cant make it work via the dashboard. I will check the reeftronics website but any additional help would be appreciated!
