Problem with new MP40

Hey guys.

I decided to get two MP40s for my Reefer 350. Both were dead quiet once installed and I was very pleased. I came home and found that one of my pumps is now very loud. I've had MP varieties for quite some time and none of them have ever sounded like this. Even on constant at its lowest setting it is twice as load as one of my MP10s. What could've happened? I hear a rattling from what sounds like the wet side. These are both brand new. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

Unplug it and make sure the wet side and dry side are aligned properly. I had that happen once.

+1 this is the most common mistake that people make. If its not aligned properly or the wrong space is used it will wear the dry side magnet to the point of it becoming loud. Also Ecotech won't warranty a pump if this is caused by improper alignment or the wrong spacer.

Right, use the correct spacer, make sure the wetside impeller assembly is snapped fully into the base, and check for alignment. If you put your hand on the dryside and you adjust the alignment of the wetside, it will be correct when there is almost no vibration from the motor.

I used the thin spacer since my glass is 1/2 inch. I've managed to get it to quiet down, but it is still considerably louder than my other one. I'm positive it is aligned and I'm using the correct spacer. I'll keep messing with it and hopefully it gets as quiet as the other one.

I have a tank with black sand. The sand is magnetic, and every once in a while a few grains get into where the magnet is and cause my wetside to make an awful loud grinding noise. I have to take it out and really clean it to get the sand out of it. It only takes a few grains to do it.
