Prodibio

Not long term... Been using it for about a month in a new tank (3 months old now)
Corals were average looking, nothing spectacular... colors ok etc. Started using the reefkit, and everything brightened up within a week of the first dose...
Water seems clearer now as well. Only think I don't like is the reef booster clouds the water for a couple hours...

I've been using Prodibio BioDigest, Bioptim and Reef Booster for the past year and a half in conjunction with KZ Zeo and Brightwell Neo-Zeo.

In my personal experience, all work well for improving water quality and coral health. In the 1.5 years I've been doing probiotic additions and running zeolites, algae has reduced and coral colors have greatly improved.

I have a question. My tank is 39g with a 12g sump(probably 45g of water). I see each ampule of biodigest is good for 264g, bioptim I couldnt find the info for, and reefbooster is good for 105g. My question is since my tank should only get a small portion of each ampule is there a good and safe way to save it, or do I need to get rid of what is left in each ampule. Seems like a waste to just toss it, but Im guessing they seal it in glass to keep it fresh for a reason.

mylifeismyown66 - Bioptim dose is 1 standard vial for 200L (50g) every 15 days. Same dose for Reef Booster on the standard vials. So these should work well on your 45g system.

For the Biodigest 1 standard vial is good for up to 1000L (250g) every 15 days. I would just go ahead and use the whole vial. If you are not comfortable with that I have seen where hobbyists have used a potato to cap the vials and then store it in the fridge until the next dose. Just make sure it doesn't topple over and leak.

Thanks Sammy. You just told me almost exactly what I was told to do from a fellow reefer whom I trust, I just still wanted to get another opinion. Rather than 15 days though I was told for the 1st 6 weeks dose Biodigest and bioptim every Sunday (water change day) and then after 6 weeks rotate biodigest and bioptim each Sunday while also dosing reefbooster once a week mid week sometime. He also mentioned just dosing full vials, but I could cap with a potato if I wanted to. One last thing is marinedepot says the reefbooster is good for 105g. I dont have the stuff on me yet to read those directions because theyre on their way to my house right now.

Strange, I got the prodibio in yesterday and the directions on the box say 1 amp for my tank is pefect, which is different than what marine depot says and most other places I found online.

Ryan - Check the Prodibio website for the most up to date dosage. I think the only thing that has changed was the Reefbooster? I believe they changed it so the dosing amounts would match more closely.

I just started using it again and noticed the same thing with the dosing being different than before. Hope you share some pics of your tank.

What are people doing when their system is zero nitrates and <0.03 po4?

I have a bit of cyano and reluctant to keep dosing the biotim?

blast from the past. a buddy from my local reef club swears by this stuff so i figured i would get the reef bio kit and try 1 box out. just did my first dose yesterday.

is there anyone else out there that can show me definitive results?

Just ordered bio digest can anyone using the prodibio method want to share long term success stories or was it short lived. Also the vsv method does it work long term or is it for short term use only?

I had success with it for a couple of years, I dosed vodka as well. I am just starting a new tank so have bought a set of bio clean to start it with. I tried zeo after it and it was too much hassle.
I will post a pic of my tank when it was prodibio and vodka.

Thank you so much for your response greatly appreciated. After lots of research it looked like the best choice for me.

I don't get these bacteria additions. Bacteria have very short reproductive cycles, and quickly adapt to the prevailing environment. In relatively short order, you will end up with strains that are optimized for your particular environment.

I don't know the science on how long that adaption takes.....

But I am rather skeptical of adding bacteria versus letting the colony find its' own optimal characteristics.....

The reason I am adding it is so it will compete with the strains of algea I have.

Hey trueblacperc, reading this thread this morning, my post may have sounded more...argumentative?...than I intended. Far from that, I was mearly speculating on bacteria. Thank you for all your posts here and in other threads, I've learned a lot from your experiences!

No worries didn't take it that way. I want to thank you as well for your feed back and will be updating a few of my threads.
