ProfiLux Plus III what do you want???

I second the random rainy and stormy days. A feature where you could either plug in that you want X number of sromy days and X number of rainy days per year or month.

Audible thunder linked to lightning Flashes. With a longer delay for dimmer flashes and shorter delay for stronger flashes.

The ability to link stormy and rainy days to light dimming.

Ability to link a dedicated adjustable power head to stormy days randomized to produce a surge. Also link a submerged pump attached to a spray bar for rain.

DMX512 support for LED control.

I watch this thread closely for weeks now and I must admit that I found my personal favorite now. Thanks chippy70.
We will see what we can do.

I know some have already mention this but I would really like to see a standalone full fledge web management with a small templating system. Something that you can expand and change the look and feel or integrate into existent systems.

-Water detection sensor
- View with custom buttons or a touch panel with custom interface
- Expandable storage (SD, MiniSD, Compact Flash or remote storage like a nas or FTP)
- NTP time synchronizing
- Built in email notification

Something I would find interesting is logging of the actions caused by the different probes. When was heating shut on/off, when was CO2 added/stopped, ...

I'm working on a pludarium now and I would find it useful to know how many times the humidity probe has started the sprinklers at the end of the day.

+1 for this

I also like the suggestion of displaying what is causing the alarm. One thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet, I would like to be able to alter the settings on my laptop before connecting to the profilux, save them to a file and simply export the settings file to the unit minimizing the time I need to have my laptop back with all the SW stuff.

I wanna chime in though against open source software. One of the reasons I like the profilux is the software seems to be well thought out and extensively tested. I don't want to run the risk of buggy 3rd party software killing my tank. Also, with all the new software upgrades try to keep it simple enough so dummies like me can still run the thing!!!

:D Someone finally on my side of thinking on this one

I have been saying this for a long time now and one of the big reasons I doubt you will see ProfiLux go down this path. One of the biggest advantages of ProfiLux is its amazing stability of software and going open source would be a real can of worms

I'd really like to see a feed button on the remote display.

I am holdiong off buying the remote display until this feature gets
added since I plan on putting the controller in the basement.

I dont want to have to run up and down the stairs at feeding time.

I would like to have the text description saved to the controler and not my PC if are still left with a win32 app. This way, if i move to a different PC and connect to my profilux i dont have to guess if I dont remember what is pluged where :c)

This isn't specific to the Plus III, but how about a Profilux iphone applet ? Basically a dumbed down control software accessing the Profilux via TCP/IP, with access to probe readings, error notices, and maybe socket control. This would be really handy when traveling, obviating the need for a Windows laptop connected to the internet.

Uploading 3rd party code to the profilux and have it run on it, also scares me, I like the stability of the unit. :)

I would like to see a simple interface (could be xml over http) that would allow 3rd party application running on a pc to talk to the profilux and get (not set) probe/light/pump/socket... information.

It would also be nice if more than one application could connect to the profilux over tcp at the same time. I'm currently working on a small MacOS app that shows probe information and it would be nice if it was also possible to run ProfiLuxControl at the same time.

Will the Profilux III keep using the XPort chip? or will networking be more "native"?

A shortcut for starting a maintenance. Since you can't add more buttons, maybe maintenance could be started when the ESC button was held down for 5+ secs?.

I really don't want it to be open source either (and yes I do like open source).

I could have easily enough made my own controller but my main interest is the
aquarium not the controller. I’d rather have a controller that works out of
the box so I can spend more time on the important things (like the fish and corals).

And besides how else would I be able to complain about Matthias ;)

not really for the new controler but just a improvement :c)

Could we get some nice label on the end of the conector of a probe/sensor...

I just finish labeling each end of my cable because once I rin the cable in my cable manager and trought the stand it would hae been imposible to itentify my probes!!

I am still new to the controller and it sound like the Plus III hardware could have most of what I want, but I have listed some that others have stated and a few new ones. I am finding that I would like more software options than hardware at this point.

USB w/ ability to back up settings or load them.

Increase sensor capacity such as water leakage on the floor.

Better control of level sensors or more options to control.

Custom alarms w/ alarm logging capability.

Being able to set the data logging to the computer the controller is hooked to or a USB device so we can get unlimited data points.
Would like to be able to customize what data is recorded and how it is displayed. Combining graphs, changing days to hours, etc.
8 outlets on the power bar instead of 6.

Custom text display on the controller. Customized buttons. Increase the size of the display so that you could place buttons around screen and then functions pointing to each button instead of the pre-labled non configurable buttons we have.

Variable speed drive controller that could work with DC pumps from any manufacturer. Don't like being locked into only one mfg.

Built-in web browser. Ability to hook up web cam if you don't have computer available. This would give me complete control/access to unit and the tank.

Better logic than what we have now. Unlimited logic commands. Logic manual of what we have now.

Ability to adjust software window to fit various screen sizes.

Additional things would be from working with other manufactures such as Vortech and IceCap. I have IceCap ballast and I know it has been discussed and I am looking into using Vortech pumps.

I just was looking at my controller on the floor and thinking it sure would be nice to have rack mount capability or at least optons to mount unit other than setting on a shelf.

At this point I have to make some things clear - this discussion should not go into a wrong direction.

The ProfiLux III should be a device with more functions and improved user interfaces (built-in USB and LAN with web interface). Reliable functions relating to aquatics (e.g. control of level, pH, light, pumps, ...) has to be seen in the foreground. More memory, higher CPU speed, unlimited possibilites to connect other devices (powerbars, lamps, probes, doser, pumps,...) and a bussystem is the target.

But: It will not have a larger color graphic display with touch pad.
Also I don't think that we can add too fancy or special features.

Why? The controller and accessories should still be affordable. And it must be backward compatible to the PII-system because our existing users must have the option to upgrade AND still to use their old accessories in the future. A complete design change is not possible. This may come with a ProfiLux IV or V or whatever...

Matthias most of these things are like you state features. By having them avail doesnt mean people you cant afford the EXTRA features will not buy the controller. They would be things the many others that can afford them would buy them. There are people out there that would see say the larger color graphic display with touch pad "option" and say thats what im looking for and purchase it. Just think your limiting what a amazing controler it could be. this is JMHO :) Like the sms and the profulix veiw there things that could be purchased and not something everyone will buy but still have the option to do so.

PLease being able to change its size for diffrent screens is huge having that would be awesome

The solution is obvious. Eventually make a new Profilux View that has a touchscreen and buttons to relay commands to the main controller. I agree that if they do this then making it a little bigger and with color selection would also be smart. I would easily pay for it if it had this functionality.

Lots of people including myself like to mount their controller to their stand for aesthetics and use it to control their equipment. This isn't really an option with the main controller as its meant to sit on a shelf and the current view is a read only device.

James

I get repeated communication regarding a touch screen for the PIII and this is the biggest feature everyone seems to want, I think James your idea is the best option that has been put forward.

GHL always listens ;)
