Promote RBTA splitting?

I have never had an RBTA split for me and i was wondering what might help the anemone do this. The one i have now is getting really big. I have had him for two years, and he is still in the exact same spot as day one in the tank. Started about 2" in diameter and now he is closer to 10". Other then cutting is there a way to promote splitting. This RBTA has unusual color and i would love to have a few more. Mouth is white going to speckled white to green to pink to bright red tips. Ill post some pics whe lights come on.

Some varieties of RBTA seem to split non-stop while others seem very reluctant to split.

I have 9 in my 34g tank and started from a single specimen. The fellow reefer I bought it from about 18 months ago said they split in his system all the time and now I see he's right.

Anemone split for multiple reasons (stressed conditions, GREAT conditions) so you may or may not be able to "force" it. I've seen a couple of people having success with increasing the frequency of feeding their anemone. Up to feeding every other day can at times cause them to split because of the abundance of food they want to increase the population.

Hope this helps but please be careful... you're playing with Mother Nature and EVERYTHING happens on her schedule. By increasing feeding you're also increasing the bioload on your tank... keep that in mind.

BigAL, thanks for the reply. So i guess if i want an rbta to split i should buy one from you...lol..I tried over feeding a few weeks back with no luck. All that happened is the nem got bigger. Guess i can wait and hope.

The first time mine split it had just been fed followed by a large water change. I have noticed that a lot of people report their nems split after this.

lol. I guess i could do that but i didnt want to risk damaging his foot removing him from LR. I heard placing ice on the foot of the anemone will cause him to release on his own. I think i might try that.

Is their any particular reason you want it to split so bad? Ive noticed with good water quality and stability mine would split all the time..
