PTSD treatment tank

Well the plumbing is all done a freshwater leak test finished. The tank is moved to where its going to call home. Now today is my weakness the dreaded AQUASCAPE. Wish me luck

Yeah I can't believe how much it has helped me with my PTSD. But I have to give you a big thank you. What part of that S**T hole were you in?

I myself was in a*s-cracker-stan (I love what I call it) back in Oct 2001. One of the first ones with boots on the ground. Then I went to Iraq in the end of 2002 then my second trip was in 2004. That is when my military life would end. Murphys law got me. The day before I did my indeff reelistetment. Three of us were on my sniper team had over watch of a guy we knew was making the IED and VBIED. I had a thumbs up to take the target when we could. We were on top of a hill all done up so no one could make us out. Well while we were waiting some kids were playing soccer right next us on the flat spot of the hill. Someone kicked the ball over us. When the kid went to get it he didn't even know we were right there. Until he tripped over us. The next thing we knew they were running back into town. We called up asking to see if we can change our location. Well the uppers were taking their sweet time making up there minds about it. The next thing we knew we could hear the sounds of outbound mortars being fired. We took off running when they started to hit all around us. All three of us were hit. We were lucky another group of guys were not that far away I could hear it happening so they came rushing over to help us. I owe them big time. They were able to get us back to the FOB and the hospital. We all were sent to Germany for medical and then back state side for rehab. All of us were med-ed out of the army.
I have had my ups and downs but like I said the aquarium is one of the biggest helpers. As I hate the answer to what the doctors say just take this pill and that pill.

Great tank build so far. Thanks for your service to our great country! I hope your tank helps with things you are dealing with. I know it is not easy. I almost got out of the hobby cause my son did not make it back. It was so hard on me I did not want to even be bothered with a tank anymore. But then realized I needed the tank! It gave me a reason just to get out of bed and have something to do to keep my mind off things. After 2 yrs now I am thankful I stayed in the hobby. Enjoy your tank and the build process!

I just read your build again and the title caught my attention. I too use my reef for therapy. I started 1 June 2009 after extensive research. Before that I was reading how elderly, ADHD, and autistic individuals where improving with their lifestyle when an aquarium was present.

I too served in Iraq right after 9/11. Almost to the day five years I was hit by a roadside bomb and was hospitalized almost 3 years. Once I started reefing my way of life changed drastically.

You have a great build going and keep up the good work.

Thank you for your service as well!

First and foremost, thank you for your service to our Country. I appreciate the freedoms that you, Newbie Aquarist, my brother, and all other service members fight for me to have.

You've picked a super sweet footprint with some sweet equipment! I look forward to watching your build. Nice 40B, too!

Thanks Mrs Bug, I am so sorry to hear about your son. But I have found it to be very relaxing and helps take my mind off of things when I am having a bad day. At first I really didn't think much about it then after setting up a tank I felt so much better watching it and just having it take my mind off of everything. I really think more people with PTSD should do this it has worked wonders for me. But my heart goes out to you gold star family's.

Good luck! Do you have ideas for your aquascape? Lets see some pics when you are done!

Nothing really I will just start putting it in and go with the flow. I am sure I will change it around about a dozen times or more. I will post pictures and let everyone see what I done and then make some changes as needs be.

Here is some of my rock I have a little more in a box out in my garage if I need it.

Your set up looks awesome and looks like you are off to a great start. Can't wait to see it stocked. I'm also a retired combat wounded vet (21 years service, injured by a 100lb EFP in Basra Iraq March 2008/14 div MITT) Really glad to see someone step up and start a tread on this subject. I emailed newbie on this quite a while back wondering how many others were out there doing the same. Good to see you got this going and will be following your tread for sure.

Cheers,
Tim (ohio 230/large reef forum)

And were filling and filling and filling. I swear I have the slowest RO unit ever made. At this rate it will be next weekend before it's filled.

Just a quick question, are you curing the rock you got? BRS rock, well any dry rock really, has the potential to leak phosphates for many months. If its cured you won't get that, or at least as badly.
