If Reef safe is a must then a swallowtail is the only true reef safe option. There are threads on here of peoples Bellus and Wantanbeis eating coral, then again you can read about people's tangs eating coral on here too.

So whoever said to not put a tusk in with smaller fish (I have several "smaller" ones), why not? If they truly are gently giants than I don't see the problem. Also, my friend with a FOWLR wanted to know if a porcupine puffer can be kept with smaller fish. He has a royal gramme and purple firefish I think are his only small ones.

My tusk really doesn't pay attention to anything (large or small fish) other than silver sides and bristle worms. As to porc puffer with smaller fish, I believe it's more of a gamble. They are nocturnal hunters for crabs and shrimps so technically small fish should be okay. But they are also known to have a wide range of appetite. Royal gramma has a better chance than firefish.

I believe I was the one that mentioned it earlier. I'd go on the side of real life experience (which I don't have) listed above... I only posted what I've read. Since I've seen just as many threads where they are harmless to fish as they are harmful to fish, I'll go ahead and nullify my opinion...

Ok thanks everyone! My dream tank would have all of these fish, plus maybe a peppermint angel (its a dream tank remember!) haha, so I am probs going to go with the bellus and tusk. If that doesn't work out (I cant find a small tusk) it would be either bellus + bluejaw or bellus + quoyi. Thanks everyone!

Anyone heard about a Niger trigger being reef safe? Also anywhere specific to look for a small Aussie tusk???

Niger triggers are hit or miss and mostly reef safe applies more to these guys. Small the specimen the better IMO. If you want a small Australian Tusk then Divers Den, QM or someone collecting fish from Brisbane - North Queensland Australia

Also some Niger triggers have decimated tanks FYI

Oops. I guess its my turn to **** off a sponsor. Was under the impression that since many of our sponsors use them and they don't sell to the public we were safe.

Oh well. I'll go ahead and smack my own hand. Lol.

Well here is what I provoked, but it is full of great info you can't find on their site...

First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our valued customers here on Reef Central for your continued patronage and support. We work tirelessly to offer some of the healthiest aquatic life available in the marine ornamental industry, and stand behind everything we sell.

I just want to clarify some false information in this thread pertaining to the animals offered in our Divers Den section of LiveAquaira.com. Transparency, along with properly sourcing and tracking all of the animals we offer is an integral part of our business model. I am proud to say we have been been offering quality aquatic life to consumers via LiveAquaria.com for over 14 years now.

The WYSIWYG animals offered and sold in our Divers Den section of LiveAquaria.com are sourced from over 15 different active suppliers in the US and abroad, and are housed and conditioned in our state of the art 20,000 gallon Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility located in Rhinelander Wisconsin. All of the fishes we offer in the Divers Den are tracked with the use of a Tank Tag System, so all of our dedicated staff knows the origin (source country), supplier, date of arrival, common and scientific name, price, and SKU number. Tank tags are entered and printed after the acclimation of each inbound shipment we receive in Rhinelander Wisconsin throughout the week. Below is a shot of the tank tags that follow each and every fish through our facility until they are photographed and offered for sale. At the bottom of this post is a shot of our Tank Tag tracking.

We pride ourselves in properly conditioning fishes offered in the Divers Den for a minimum of two weeks prior to listing them for sale. It's not uncommon for us to hold fish for several months or even longer, if they are delicate shippers, have specific feeding requirements, or are temperamental. Bonded pairs that are not purchased from suppliers as harvested or select pairs, are housed together for a minimum of 30 days to ensure their compatibility.

We continue to strive each and every day on providing the best quality livestock available anywhere, and have built our reputation of offering quality animals with one of the best guarantees in the business. The guarantee we offer our valued customers is backed by Drs. Foster and Smith, not any of our suppliers.

Our business model is by no means the cheapest nor the most cost effective way to operate, by its the right thing to do. There is a substantial amount of overhead and costs associated with managing and maintaining the protocols we have in place. Our pricing is reflective of the effort, care, quality, and guarantee we offer our valued customers, as we fully stand behind everything we sell.

Furthermore, it's my personal job here at Drs. Foster and Smith to work with our our suppliers and purchase all of the animals offered on LiveAquaria.com. The decisions on what to bring into our facility and offer in the Divers Den is based off of my experience in the industry, consumer demand, trends, suggestions submitted by our valued customers, and lastly the availability of quality animals from specific countries and specific suppliers.

Drs. Foster and Smith has no financial stake in Quality Marine; we choose to purchase a large percentage of the animals we offer from QM, as in my opinion, they are hands down the best importer/wholesaler in the entire country. I first started dealing with Quality Marine back in the mid 80's working in a brick and motor retail aquarium store.

CIS is a stand-alone importer/wholesale operation, located in California, and is not affiliated with Drs. Foster and Smith, or Quality Marine in any way. CIS handles the fulfillment for Petco's online livestock initiative as well as providing some freshwater fishes for some of their brick and mortar retail stores.

Lastly, I would like to personally invite you Dmorty217 (and everyone here on RC) to join us at one of our Open House events. I would be delighted to sit down and discuss in detail our philosophy, operations, and suppliers so you can see in person how we operate our Drs. Foster and Smith Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility, home of the Divers Den. For details on our Open House events please visit:

Thank you very much and hope I have provided more transparency and facts about our business model in this thread.

Happy fishkeeping!
Kevin Kohen
