Purple gig

I came home to find a couple tiny pieces of rat poop. almost mouse size floating around. But its posture is good and the mouth closed
Here is a shot showing the color. The color is not perfect but getting closer.

Here is a close up of the tents.

In this one you can see the lengthening of the tents.

Ok I was sitting on the couch next to the qt and saw it relaxed and is looking much bigger than I thought!

Wow! Looking excellent, and you'll see it get larger and larger as it relaxes. Our green went from 2.5" upon coming home to almost 6" overnight in QT, now even bigger..

Great job, and keep us posted.

So here is a question. When do I start to consider putting it in the display. Its looking good and acting healthy. It released some zoox probably do to me leaving the actinics on over night:( Forgot that its not automated. Anyway how long is long enough to know its healthy?

Day 5 looks good still but a lil bleached due to the actinic mishap yesterday. I'm still upset about that:WALL: I placed a triangle shaped piece of eggcrate over it to shade it a lil bit.if all goes well it's going in the display which will be the 7th day in QT. There it can enjoy the stable confines of the DT.

Today marks 7 days in the QT. So I'm going to add the gig. It's shown that it's healthy to me. It spent a week in two other tanks prior and still looks good. That and it was a trade in from someone who had it for awhile. So in it goes and photos to come. My one problem is it's attached to a big ugly rock. It's foot is puffy like it's on the move. And I think I can peel it. Has anyone peeled a gig foot. I peel "ricepaper" delicate feet all the time with my Coldwater nems. And they tear if you look at them wrong. I could easily chopped the diy rock in half with my mini sledge and cold chisel. But would it **** off the nem too much. Hmmm questions questions

Given a choice, I would opt for chiseling instead of peeling. I removed my gig from a rock it was on using a chisel. The rock shattered all over the gig, but once back in the water it was as if nothing happened. My reason for choosing this approach was based on all of the photos I've seen of gigs out of the water during low tide. I think they can survive out of water for an extended period of time. Also, I think they have a strong foot, which allows them to remain planted while out of the water, so peeling might be difficult and could cause injuries, much more so than chiseling.

The eagle has landed! I repeat the eagle has landed!

I got the gig into its new surroundings,:hb2: near the top of the reef. When I got to the gig it was on the move and was halfway on the glass and halfway on the rock. So I was able to carefully tease the foot off the glass and then was able to take the foot off the rock. I will have to say doing that to such a hard to and beautiful gig was nerve racking but I only did so because I was 100% confident I could do it as I started and felt out the situation. I would have never tried had I not peeled so many coldwater nems while collecting. So I guess What I am saying is ..."Don't try this at home"
I took this 5 minutes after dropping in the tank. It reduced in size a ton while acclimating and is expanding slowly.

And here is one show its relation to its neighbors.

And more to come:celeb3:
