Purple Haddoni From Petco

I went into my local Petco last friday and they were unloading a large shipment of saltwater stuff. What caught my eye was a purple/blue Haddoni trying to turn itself rightside up. There was a larger bright green one as well both for $27.
I asked the guy about it and he said it came in a bag that had no water in it and was sure to die.
So it came home with me and I left the green one there to die (in hindsight i should have taken both). Immediatly after I put it in the tank it inflated and buried its foot. Has not deflated once since to my knowlege

Lucky you and lucky anemone. It could so easily have been bought by someone who hasn't a clue about anemones. beautiful!

Nice! I went to a Petco yesterday and they had 2 green carpets. They both had their mouths gaping and had slime coating them...def goners. It kills me that they carry livestock that they cannot care for.

Great find and I'm glad the nem has a happy ending!

I haven't kept track of how they ship anemones, but for a while a lot of folks were shipping anemones dry. I can't remember the exact reasoning.

Rod told me that he had a glass panel fall off his main tank with the big Gig and his original Pair in it while he was out. He returned 8hrs later to the fish swimming around in the folded up anemone with a halide right above it. He said it slimed up and was fine sitting dry like that.

i still see lots of dry shipped anemones. i was under the impression it was for two reasons: keeps weight and freight costs down for smaller lighter bagging, and if they dont have any water to foul up, theyre more likely to survive transport better....

The Petco in Corpus Christi have reasonable saltwater department. They bring in Carpet all the time but only the tan carpets, sometime with light green striped. That is all nothing colorful. They can keep these anemone alive for weeks. Water OK but not enough light.
