Id say RM has the best service for coral, they always stand behind their stuff, and ya some of the stuff does look super saturated but like Chris said may be just the difference in monitors and the fact those are taken under 1000watt 20k helios.
Ive ordered a handful of times and they always send me more than I ordered
Jay24k, Ive noticed a few things ive ordered didnt look like they did from the site but my view on this is that these things have to fly all the way from CA. switching planes etc is alot of stress and almost 24 hours without light is gonna cause some bleaching...so i wouldnt really expect to get whats inthe picture until it gets acclimated.
either way keep up the great work chris.

What a discussion about a frag that I thought was cool but not THAT COOL.
Two things to consider about our corals and how we represent them. First is that we prepare our photos on a CRT monitor and not a Lap Top or a LCD. We do this for two reasons, first is that a CRT lmonitor looks the same no matter what angle you are viewing the coral at, and because they have an average brightness/contrast output range the photos look reasonable on most monitors. But.... with these new and incredible CRT monitors coming out I am seeing problems with our photos. They look nuked, like we own stock in Photoshop! I am thinking that I have to remove saturation rather than leaving at zero in Photoshop. I just purchased a Samsung 931B and it is insane. I turned down the brightness and contrast by 30 percent because my website looked like a cartoon.
SO... What do you all think about me taking a poll and seeing how many folks use the new high contrast (like over 1:700 ratio) LCD's. This would help me out plus many other vendors... I could therefore judge how to present my corals. This is a very touchy subject with folks and it has been for years (photoshop)... What folks have to understand is that in no way are we trying to misrepresent out photos. We set the white balance to what they look like in our system and we photoshop them to take out the blue. WE ARE NOT ADDING COLOR! Our bulbs are located out 2 to 3 FEET above our corals. Yes they are 1000 watt 20k's but at 3 feet away they have as much intensity as a 400 watter at 10 inches.
What is unfortunate about what I see in this thread (and others)is that they are alot of folks that rip us, but they have never ordered from us, or they have ordered from us and something has gone wrong (Fedex delay, tough species, loss of color because of shipping, etc) I hope that this feeling about us is in the minority because that if folks have problem I would hope that they would communicate with us so that we can make things right. We will always make it right, if given that chance.
I am not sure I answered any of the questions or doubts that have been brought about by this thread, but I am trying to be as honest and straightforward as possible. Please let me know what you think about my idea of that poll (LCD Monitors).

I have purchased corals while visiting your facility and have purchased corals from you over the internet/phone. In every case, the corals have been as represented.
My only complaint stems from my side of the transactions, not yours! I can only receive coral shipments about once every two weeks which means I need the stars to line up so that
1) I can be home to receive the shipment
2) Some other reefer doesn't buy the coral first!

I picked up my coral from fed ex this morning. All of the colonies are fine and thriving. Polyps were out immediately after acclimation. Now I know I don't have as good of camera as Chris uses, mine is just a Kodak, but I think that the picture of the coral I saw on his website, and the coral I have now in my tank is very close to what I saw. My tank is lit with 3 de250 w ushio 10k and t-5 actinic. The coral is at the bottom of my tank right now untill it acclimates longer but still looks awsome. You can't tell from the picture but their is a green tint to the skin coming out. And it's not a top down shot.

Nope it's gone. Wish it was in my tank! He actually has a premium page that you have to be a member to access. $25/year but you get first shot at premium stuff and some special discounts and such as well. There were actually 5 or 6 pieces as nice or better than the one I posted but are all gone as well. Sorry for the hijack but the example I was giving was to show that corals can look as good as RM's without being shopped. (I'm not insinuating that Chris shopped his pic's)

I to have ordered for RM many times. The corals have always looked as good, or better, once they had time to color back up.
Many times they were way off upon arrival, but I've even kept pictures when I purchase and then comparred later.....always and good or better when given time.
My ONE complaint with RM is that they don't take PayPal. Chris, many of us could buy more from you if you did. We sell off lots of equipment and frags and typically this is all done with PayPal. So many reefers have "secret" funds in PayPal.
Just a suggestion.

I think with the wild colonies the chances of the coral keeping the original color is much more hit and miss. I bought a gorgeous big wild acro loripes colony from Chris at RM last year, it was cream with lavendar tips and whitish polyps, exactly how it was represented on the site. The frags that made it, the colony STN'd over a month or so in my system, are way different. Gorgeous but completely different. It is now a deep green with turquoise/navy blue highlights all over the body with 1/2 white/1/2 green polyps, literally, each polyp is half and half...I think it will continue to shift into this teal/turquoise/navy blue color. Very beautiful and healthy but a far cry from how it looked upon entering my system.

reefer madness is the coolest place to go and purchase corals. They have 3 large holding tank for sps and 1 for lps. Chris is a cool guy and about the photo I was there when they took picture to upload to the internet. What you see is what you got Chris has a 2x4 area to take picture and after that he will upload to the web. I'm lucky to live about 20 min away from him so every friday I will stop by and check out the new shipment. He always give you advice regarding which one is easy or hard to keep. And always free frag with purchase....

Omigosh! I'd be in the coral looney bin for sure! The only thing saving my marriage is that RM's 3000 miles away.
