I picked up a frag from a local reefer. I looked at it and it looked like a nasuta but it really wasn't pretty. It was an ugly brown polyped acro with a light brown base. I've had it in my frag system for 3 weeks and WOooooooo HOhoooooo

SERVO, Nice job, don't you love the "ugly duckling" syndrome...turns into a prince...or princess depending on your gender or which way ya swing :D.

...or was that the ugly frog??? I get my fairy tales mixed up...a damaged childhood to blame for that :D

here is a up date on mine

Did it get that much darker or is it just the lighting in that photo?

This is mine now, the polyp extension makes it look really purple.

This is a frag I got from RM also.

I just picked up a frag of the a. nasuta with the purple polyps, greenish/yellow body and reddish corallites from Chris, it looks a lot like SERVO's shot. I'm hoping it will turn inot the first pick in the thread :D. I'll get a picture of it when it gets settled in a bit. It looks really good. Chris said it still needs to color up quite a bit. He said they like it up really high right up under the light. For now it is on the bottom and I will slowly move it on up.

how long do you leave it in its current location before you move it up? How many times will you move it before it is at top like chris suggested?

it depends on your coral and your tank. I did bottom for a week mid reef another week then to the top under the MH. IMO

I've had mine six weeks, the polyps are out, but the body is a very pale cream, and doesn't appear to be coloring at all. Oh, and it's high up under 2 250 XM 10K with actinic.

All their pics are taken under heavy VHO + 20k and they are taken from the top down with a underwater camera.

In others words it will never look that good in your tank. I'm sure they are all touched up. There is a huge thread about them doing this some where

Yea, RM does have nice stuff. Unfortunately my guy RTN'd one night out of the blue. Very strange...nothing I could do. This is a really nice coral, I may try it again some day and see what happens.

Great googly moogly thats a sweet looking piece. I got a frag from Atlantis a month or two ago. Little bitty thing. Cant wait for it to start growing.

Hello all! The A. nasuta is a pretty hardy Acro. It is considered to be a "Bushy Acropora" but this particular species is very hardy considering your husbandry is on the up and up as well as stable water parameters are practiced. Most of these colonies color up on average from anywhere to 1 to 5 months depending the size of the piece, on your lighting, and husbandry. Most of the posts are pretty accurate on how to care for this species. Good luck to all and Happy Reefing!

I'm not sure mine is the same species as the one talked about here, but I could be wrong. It seems that the branches on mine are a lot finer and tubular. Color is coming back after a recent move. I also have one that looks similiar to the one talked about here. It is thicker for sure.
