pvc bottom need feedback

tbone28 - Can you give me an idea of what shipping would be from Texas to the bay area? Of the quotes I've received so far, shipping has been just as expensive as the tank, if not more, so I'm just curious.

freight was $500 to the LFS. Includes the crate fee. Residential deliveries are often more expensive than commercial. I just received my tank, and it's worth the freight!

most of the time if you have it delivered to a freight terminal and pick it up thre the freight is alot less expensive.

tbone28 - I was quoted a little more for shipping and that wasn't even to the LFS. It was only to the SJ airport, where I'd have to pick it up. I like your shipping much more. :) Too bad you've already ordered yours, otherwise I would've split shipping with you.

True, I considered that as an option, but you need to factor in renting a truck with a lift gate. If you use your own truck, you'd need to find a few of your friends and make sure all of you have the same schedule the day your tank arrives

How much was shipping? And who did you order your tank through? Maybe your LFS is trying to profit some on the freight? Perhaps you ordered a bigger tank than me?

I ordered a standard 180g (6x2x2), and my LFS told me he would just pass on the cost on to me. Why don't you try my LFS, Aquarium Concepts in Dublin. Ken's the owner.

The shipping price that I was referencing was from Glasscages where they quoted me $595 to San Jose. I was shopping around for a (wide) 100gal tank and I had contacted a few different vendors. I still have quite a bit of time (several months) before I'll be able to upgrade, so I've been researching what I want and where to get it from. I haven't even heard of AGE, so I'll try contacting Ken to see what he can do. Thanks

I got it now. Well, I think GlassCages is on the East Coast. that's why your shipping is more. A.G.E is in Texas. A.G.E doesn't sell direct to the public - must go through an LFS. You can use any LFS - doesn't have to be Aquarium Concepts.

FYI - A.G.E's niche in the custom tank market is the 1" PVC bottom - you can drill as many holes as you like and not risk cracking the bottom. I didn't do any closed loops, but still like the PVC bottom in case my rockwork topples over, which could possibly still crack the glass.

A.G.E will also do an acyrlic overflow, which I feel looks better than the glass overflow.

I heard GlassCages does sloppy silicone work?

tbone28,

I do not know what you are talking about A.G.E being just a little higher than A.O????? My 72" x 30" x 30" quote from A.G.E was double what A.O. quoted me as of just this week.

I can't explain why your quote was so much higher...maybe try a different LFS to order your A.G.E? The LFS owner told me he's only marking up my tank by 10%.

Here were my quotes from April of this year

Miracles: $2100 shipped to a depot (truck rental needed)
AO: $2275 shipped
A.G.E: $2400 shipped

RoBolton where did you get your quote from?? was it braced? What type of glass? Overflowbox? how many predrilled bulkheads? There are so many factors that change the price of A.G.E aquariums. If you got the quote a Fish Gallery who did you talk to?
