I know for the most part dwarf angelfish stay the same color from juvenile to adult.Im wondering though if the cherub pygmy angel would color up alittle more from juvenile to adult? In other words they have one at the LFS that has alittle of a drab color. The face isnt that orange/yellow and the blue is alittle more on the dark side. The fish is only about 3/4 to 1 inch in size.Do you think when it gets fully grown itll be a more vibrant color or will it just grow and stay the same color? Thanks in advance!

The are dark blue. Check my homepage for a thread on them. Pics can sometimes make them look a little brighter.

I love these little fish; the cajones of a fish 10 times their size. I wouldn't expect them to change color; but some fish look faded in the confines of a dealer's tank and brighten up when more comfortable.

Under different lighting they can really vary. In the shadows (where they spend a lot of time picking at rocks) mine are quite dark, but in the light they can look electric by comparison. Also when they're bigger and bulkier it is easier for them to catch the light right, whereas narrow juveniles don't catch the light on their sides as much and end up looking a lot darker. I've noticed the shade of yellow from juvie to adult gets a little richer, but the orange only shows up from camera flash ime.

These colors are true to life on my biggest one (still has growing to do) when in the light:

They're dark fish, but I think they're beautiful~.

I would expect the color to brighten up a bit when in an established tank and not stressed out, but other wise should stay the same.

And each fish will have different amounts of yellow on the face, can see the difference b/t the one I used to have and "LukFox" above.

those are Beautiful specimens!!They are my favorite dwarf angel as well. The one at the store that i had them special order has some blotches of almost a black color on the orange/yellow face. Do you think these "blotches" will disappear with time or is this how the fish will stay? I dont care either way im going to buy it but id much rather have one with a cleaner look. It almost looks dirty on its face if you understand what i mean?

Okay I think I know what you mean by the black splotches actually... One of my small ones had it when I got it. However, it is very hard to tell them apart (they're all .5-.75") so I don't know which it is anymore. It either filled in to be more blue like Todd's fish (what I am guessing) or it turned orange. One of them has an orange upper lip actually, which is right where there used to be a dark spot on one of them. Either way I guess it won't stay black.

yea the black marks almost look like dirt on its face haha. Its ok i paid for it already and their holding it for me im just waiting for them to get my Paracentropyge multifasciata in so i can add them at the same time for better odds of them getting along.I think they should probably get along fine possibly even ignore eachother because they are such a different shape what do you all think?I do have a backup plan in case they don't get along and the cherub will go into a 33 or 20high and the Multibar into a 75 . thanks again everyone

If you want more color, take a look at an african flameback - same size, same temperment, lots more color. But either way - by far one of my favorite fish!!! Tons of personality, and without a doubt, THE BOSS! (add last, IME)

My LFS had a flameback as well and the orange color was amazing on it. I just love the cherub its my favorite dwarf angel :) . You think id be better off adding the multibar angel first and then the cherub?I was under the impression that adding them at the same time would have the same result?Im just positive that i wouldnt add the cherub first.

and thanks luiz beautiful fish there!

I'd probably add the multibar first, but I'd also want to quarantine it. It should get some special attention to make sure it's healthy, eating well, and has good weight before going in with other fish. They can be so delicate, I wouldn't want to rush things.

Multi-bar must be added FIRST. C. argi aka Chreub angel are very aggressive to fish added later. When my Cherub reached adulthood a couple of years ago, I was almost incapable of adding any small fish.
Plus, Multibars are notorius for being poor eaters or at least hard to start, you definitely need it in their first to take care of any problems before food competition starts!

Sincerely,
Matthew

See i was thinking this and i would have to setup a quick quarantine tank that wouldn't be a big problem but the thing is i was under the impression that putting it into an established reef would give it a better chance at survival.I have Tons of sponges , macro algae , and micro algae in the tank already and there would be none of this in the quarantine tank. I do have about 20-30 different kinds of food though(frozen, freeze dried, flakes, different nori,Angel formula,NLS pellets, ocean nutrition pellets plus a bunch more) so mabe the sponges and algae wouldnt be that important but i do want to make the fish as comfortable as possible. The only thing in the tank as of now are 2 ocellaris clowns that are the most docile fish ive ever seen.I Have a 75,33, and 20high. There both going into the 75 but mabe i can put one in the 20 and one in the 33 until they are eating ? I dont know there are so many options what are the best?lol thanks matthew and lukfox

Yes, Centropyge, esp. delicate reluctant feeders do best in a tank that has a healthy population of nuisance algae (Hair, Diatoms) along with productive LR. It lets them graze like they do in Nature. So a barren QT is not always the best place for them..

From what I understand, multibarred angels often suffer from decompression issues and this can result in internal bacterial infections. By the time you actually see the infection on the outside, it's often too late. Plus, angels are well known fluke carriers. Put it in a tank where you can treat it with antibiotics and prazipro at least. You can put some LR in there so it can pick around, though.

If you have trouble getting your multibar to feed, i found mine would only eat flake food off the surface as soon as it sunk he would leave it alone, he only ate flake and corals for about 4 months but now he eats everything. Even pushes the potters angel and mystery wrasse out the way.

Thanks everyone. And thanks inselaffe i have about 20 or so different kinds of foods to try currently so ill give everything a shot im not to worried :) .The multibar angel should be here in a few days so well see how it goes im not to worried. This cherub is eating like a SLOB :) .Heres some pics with the lights off and the camera flash on for a better color.I need to get me a better camera either way soon :) .
