QT tank for AEFW...input please

That picture is of one of the worst cases. Most colonies aren't nearly as bad. Some don't even have any damage at all. They definitely prefer some acros over others. Yes, I do plan on simply discarding any areas with eggs like that.

I did increase the dosage on the second batch I dipped. Seemed to work much better.

Cool. Glad the stronger dip worked. How harsh is it on the corals?

Didn't seem too bad on the coral...but time will tell. I look at it this way....I'm ready to toss them all out onto the street, quite frankly. So anything I manage to save after all this will just be a bonus, IMO :D

I was expecting more sliming up from what others have posted, so perhaps they were in fact using higher doses?

Well, seems the most badly infected pieces just couldn't handle the stress of the treatment. RIP:

Yeah, this whole experience may knock me out of the SPS field for good.... :(

That seems to be most others experience as well Peter. The worst effected pieces go first. It seems from most people's accounts saving 60 - 70% of the corals in the tank is a success so there will be some loss.
I have thought many times about taking all my Acros out. Even after treating last summer and losing virtually all of mine I still fear a reinfestation that might push me "over the edge".
Chris

Of course it's all the nice purple and blue ones that kick it. The greens....fine.

I did throw a small Halichoeres wrasse into the QT tank to take of worms that fall off after treatement.

Yah i've found they go after the nanas and valida first. Sorry to hear of the loss, hope the rest make it!

I've got that same coral, and the AEFW hit it first. I've got these buggers for the 2nd time now :( So far 3 dips in TMPCC at 3X strength has killed all the AEFW and the coral is doing fine.

I too found that a TMPCC dip after the levimasol really killed them buggers!

I had AEFW about a year ago. I heard a few things about fluke tabs, but was too impatient to get them shipped to me while I waited, so I headed to my local petsmart. I found some stuff containing praziquantel:

I did 6 dips of my acros only (no quarantine tank). The first dip had a TON of AEFW. I never saw a single flatworm after that first dip. I found some egg clusters, that I covered in kalk paste. I've been AEFW free since then. :)

Also, I didn't lose a single acro. Some slight browning of a few of my milli's, but that's it.

Congrats! That's a much better rate than I'm having. The setup of my tank did not allow for constant removal and replacement of acros (lots of vertical space) so a QT was the only option. What I don't understand is how can you be sure you got them all? I mean, your tank was never acro free, and they clearly crawl on everything, not just acros.

Did a lot of dips for a few weeks. After the first dip, I didn't see a single one. It's possible that I still have them, but there's no sign of them, and it's been quite a while now (I take out a tricolor and swish it in water occasionally, just to double check).

Trust me, it wasn't fun. I moved 1/2 of my rock to a bin, and had the acros sitting on some eggcrate on the sandbed. Dremeled all the bases off the rock.

Definitely not a fun experience. And yes, it was worrisome for a while (checking all the time for AEFW), but I figure they must be gone by now (been a long time without any signs).

The Validas and Verweyis are like candies to them. Had to throw 2 of my valida colonies because they were so infested that I don't even think I can save them.

I'm going to experiment with another reefers success with levamisole by using 60ppm in a dip for every incoming sps. This will part of my qt procedure. Along with my qt procedure will be the use of interceptor, tmpcc and fluke tabs. The QT procedure will be 5 weeks.
