QT tank for AEFW...input please

Anyone use the camel shrimp successfully, either as treatement or part of a prophylactic QT procedure?

I am interested to hear what everyone has to say on the matter. At this point I would really rather not introduce any new pests to my display. I dont think many people really QT corals?

Things are looking up this morning...seems the dieoff of the really badly hit ones is done. I added ammonia absorbing media to the filter just in case the LR isn't enough. Dosing kalk to keep pH up. Even have PE on most of the acros. And that melanurus wrasse is crazy good at picking the corals clean!! Most importantly, pieces like the Oregon tort, and red table are still alive :D

TellyFish - I QT every coral and i still got them. I got them from snails. Never thought to QT snails. They gave me monti-eating nudis at the same time. Awesome huh?

SDguy - thats good news!!! Do you plan on doing another treatment?

Snails?! Ugh, that sucks!

Yes, treatment #2 will be this weekend. I'll just do a few first. If I see no worms at all, I'll wait another week before threatment #2 for all the acros.

Yah, its the only thing i've added in over 8 months. Figures :rolleye1:

Good luck on the next treatment. I'm hoping for no worms!! :D

Did you ever think that you might have had them before you added the snails? Pyramidellid snails can be introduced on Astreas etc... but I would think it would be highly unlikely to introduce AFEW on snails unless they came from an infected tank.

Well, lost my turaki...not surprising....that thing was so temperamental from day 1 :(

Sorry to hear that SD. I want an update on your turquois polyp stag. Mine is branching at the tip real good but still nocturnal polyps only.

Actually, the turquoise stag was one of those completely untouched by the AEFW. It seems to be doing fine in QT. Hasn't really branched much, just grown the branches it already had, much longer. Looks rather spindly.

I started with 150mg per gallon of Durvet brand Levimasole Hydrochloride. Worms were irritated..didn't die though. Next batch of corals I tried 250mg per gallon. Worked better (worms still don't die though  ), but had some RTN (though they were corals that were looking bad to begin with...not sure I can blame the meds). I will try 200mg per gallon this next time around.

Hey anything is possible. But since the snails were the only thing introduced during an 8m+ timespan, and no damage or sign of the pests were present on my 40+ frags and colonies before that time, I'll blame the snails. It took 10 days for them to attack in the display when i returned the montis after 2 months of QT. So i'm very leary that they would not attack for over 8m.

Sorry to hear about the loss SDguy. Keep your head up, you'll beat em!

Thanks! Things aren't all bad. I'm shocked to see nice PE on my ORA purple polyp green acro, considering it looks like most of its flesh is missing :eek2:

I fragged the turaki. Some may survive...I see PE. The surf and turf is toast...but man, did that thing hang on well...it was soooo devoured.

My two biggest colonies are in the levimasol right now. I crammed them into a 5g bucket with PH and heater. I stuck to the original 150mg per gallon dose...I don't want to lose these.....

RIP :mad2:
