Question: Is BRS RODI Value Plus 4 Stage sufficient for San Francisco Tap water?

Hi everyone,

Looking to purchase a new RODI unit. I was wondering if anyone in San Francisco has the BRS Value 4 Stage and if it is enough.

I know BRS recommends the Universal for water with chloramines but is it necessary?

Thanks all!

milpitas water supply is same as SF.

refer to this report
http://www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov/_pdfs/pw_water_quality_report.pdf

look under SFPUC column. I did not see chloramines. Also, avg TDS of tap water it says is 81.

FWIW, I have 4 stage, but I only installed 1 carbon and 1 sediment + RODI membrane and DI unit. I think I have one or two canisters with no media, and I replace the carbon and sediment every 1.5+ years and at that time, the output tds is 1.

On page three there is a paragraph that is titled Chloramines. "Both SFPUC and SCVWD waters are treated with chloramine to protect public health by destroying disease-causing organisms."

I'm in SF and my chlorine test strips showed no free chlorine but some total chlorine which I believe is an indication of chloramine.

ok thanks, now we know, and info is from an official document.

I don't think I have done anything other than 1 sediment + 1 carbon in rodi filter. OP, I guess its up to you if you want to get it or not.

San Jose water company also says it may contain chlorine or chloramin. I have used my rodi for years without chloramin blaster and its been fine.

I know this thread is kinda old, but I have a related question. Which test strips do you guys use to test for chlorine? I just recharged a batch of Purigen and want to check for residual chlorine. Are we talking about the pool test strips, or is there something better geared more for low level testing?
