Question: What LED setup for Red Sea Max 34 gal?

Question: I have a Red Sea Max 34 gal with LED's but unfortunately they are not working well anymore since it is an older Rapid LED set up. I think the driver is going.

Regardless, I want to upgrade to a setup like a Radeon or something that is an all in one setup but want suggestions. Is that worth the money? Any better suggestions? I plan on fitting it in the original Red Sea hood to keep the same look so I do have some size constraints.

Would love to have something that has programmable modes like storms and stuff.

Thank you!!

Radions are totally worth it, the new ones look great. I've seen them retrofitted to Biocube hoods so I'm sure you could make that work. Forget the storm crap, that gets old and just annoys the fish. The ability to ramp things up gradually is one of the big advantages of controllable LED.

What kind of corals you plan on keeping?

I'm a huge proponent of the Rapid retrofit kits, having used one for 2 years now myself, and done lots of modifications and customizations to mine (and even a drop-in repair when a UV LED went bad). I think it's the cleanest setup you can get keeping the hood in stock condition, while also being able to customize your LEDs and tank coloration more than any other solution.

If you want any help figuring out the repairs for your current system, or modifications, feel free to PM me, or reach out to Rapid. They're super helpful.

I'm not sure what you want to get out of the lights, but the only thing you'll really get by switching to the radion is more controllability, and more light than your tank can handle, and a one-piece premade fixture. If you already have a controller to do dimming for you, then I can't imagine it being worthwhile to change to the radion.

Or if you just want to spend some money and try something new, I'm in full support of that as well. There are some threads in the nano forum of people doing full-fixture retrofits into the hood, so you might want to do some searching around there.
