What a crappy tank, PBITAWA!!!

:D

When is the new reefcast coming out, geesh, you guys are a bunch of slackers...

In all seriousness, long live reefcast!

Were you guys talking about phytoplankton culturing? I did that for a while just experimenting.

A couple of months ago in Reefkeeper magazine, per the Dendronepthyta (spelling?) article, that the amount of phyto culture needed to supply a NPS tank is around 50 gpd of phyto added in order to be sufficient food for the corals.

Marc, being the editor of Reefkeeper magazine, how does that work out? Does that insinuate that the culturing which you are suggesting here is worthless? In reality, is it worthless, or does it really help as a good supplement to the tank?

I actually saw that tank when I was in Cleveland in April. He's not using nearly that much phytoplankton. And as an aside, I really thought his tank was full of green water around the clock, when in fact most of the time is it nice and clear like our tanks. I took some pictures that day, but haven't had time to post them.

Phytoplankton is definitely part of the food chain and benefits the pod population in our tank, and some corals and of course clams benefit from it as well. Some hobbyists use it all the time, some even in massive quantities. I've found that my system really doesn't seem to need it, so I use it very sparingly. Then again, my system is pretty big, I feed heavily, and the tank is mature.

I use DT phyto but only feed it to the two refugiums where the concentrations of pods and other inverts are.
For all other corals --they get a mixture of Reef Snow, oyster eggs, and cylclopeeze

Evan, Haven't heard much from this thread in a while. How are things going? Did you move yet?

I heard he is out at the great barrier reef collecting specimens for his new (shh... this is top secret... - 400 gallon) tank...

Evan called me this evening and invited me to go see "The Happening" with him and his girlfriend. I got there on time, to find that it was sold out. So we waited another 45 minutes for the next showing.

He's been telling me about his tank but I don't want to say anything because that way he'll have something to post about. ;)
