Quoyi parrotfish owners

What do you feed and how often? I've had my Quoyi for about 6 months now and absolutely love him. But he's not as fat as I would like him to be. I have an auto feeder that feeds flakes, NLS, and hikari pellets 3 times a day. I also feed a mixed bag of homemade frozen (squid ,clam, shrimp)and hikari frozen ( mysis, brine, spirulina)once a day. I know he eats a good bit but my Anthias and wrasses are all getting fat . He's been dewormed but it may be time to do that again. I'm just wondering if there is something specific that your quoyi goes nuts for and size? Any experience is welcome.

i dunno i feed mine spirulina based pellets and it seems to enjoy it, also it constantly grazes on my live rock, and is extremely fat

I've got a princess parrotfish (very similar to the quoyi), and it wasn't around many fish before I got her. She only ate pellets when I got her. Wouldn't touch frozen, nori, or fresh while in my QT.

After being added to my DT, my tangs taught it how to at nori off of the clip or rubber-banned onto a rock, and my triggers taught her how to eat feeder clams from the half shell.

My parrot literally eats anything I put in the tank now, and fat as a turducken. I feed about 2-3 times a day. All between 5PM and midnight...

Best of luck!!!

DO you guys keep these in a reef tank or FOWLR? Beautiful fish, but I was under the impression they werent reef safe

Mine's in an reef. Doesn't touch coral at all, but keeps the powerheads, rock, and glass clean as can be. I've seen it pick on the rock around coral, and got nervous that it would accidentally grab a zoa or polyp in the process, but still has never touched a coral. Only been with me a few months, though. Not sure if behavior changes as the fish matures, but the scarus line of parrotfish is normally pretty safe. Nothing like the rock and reef crunching monsters seen on the nature shows...

Mine eats everything. But is just kinda slow an steady. My anthias are zipping around the tank almost stealing food out f my Quoyis mouth.

i just got mine today...
my daughter pick it from my fish store, she will loves it even more when she found out that its also similar to princess parrot fish.

mine is not eating yet and its very shy, any tips?
does it needs to be QT with sand?
thanks

Beautiful fish, good luck with it Lawrence. How big?

Mine is in a reef and eats any and all pellets, brine, mysis, and nori. He won't touch flakes and if I try to feed pellets over about 2mm in size my Quoyi will ignore them. A QT with sand isn't necessary, they don't hide in the sand at night like many wrasse do. As far as size of food it seems that the smaller it is the more likely my parrotfish is to try it. Everyone. I know who has one says pellets along with all of the ones I have seen for sale on DD

No sand needed. Just make sure to treat with prazipro as parrotfish are known to carry internal parasites. .
Prazipro and then Cupramine..

I always do prazipro dip before going to QT or DT . I have cupramine and prazipro running in the qt as always. This parrot fish is currently on my main tank sump until it settle and start to eat aggressively while I am trying to catch my cleaner wrasse from the main tank so I can go fallow even though I don't have no major ick outbreak. I want to make sure I will not have ick outbreak later on anymore.

Beautiful and hardy fish. As mentioned, no need for sand in the QT, but have plenty of hiding spaces for them because they are shy.

It took mine a day, or so to start eating, but after she became comfortable, she went after any sized pellet I offer. She did slow down on her eating while she got accustomed to the prazipro, so you may want to ramp that up slowly.

One more thing: I've heard that these fish are supposed to sleep in protective mucus that may pollute your tank. Mine does sleep in the rock, but I'm yet to see any type of mucus cocoon that they produce. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I know some of the larger ones in the wild do so, but does this follow suit for the Scarus species?

I often see my butterflies picking at what I assume to be his mucus "sleeping bag" on weekend mornings when I'm here to see the lights turn on.

So far its still very shy I put him on the main tank. So he have more room to roam without being harassed.

The fish is still very shy ... I couldn't find it this morning I thought it jump :(
How long before they become more bold?

Thanks

It took mine about a week or so to become more bold. I left the lights off when I introduced him for two days to help acclimate him. Mine is very timid when the lights are off, but I guess most fish are
