Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

Maybe because they are so thick they seem to grow slower than the skinny butterflies. In other words similar weight gain but less dimensional gain.

Mine also just about retained its original size since about 18 months ago. Not much thicker or longer. Just the same torpedo shape.

Fortunately mine never had a problem eating, so I can only say keep trying anything and everything. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Well my S. rivulatus still hasn't taken to food. I've seen him sample mysis, but usually he just spits it out. It has been 2 months now and he is looking more like a butterfly while the rabbitfish is looking like a beach ball.

I've increased the photo period to 18 hours(and added extra lights), and have been massively overfeeding the tank with everything, trying to grow algae; also hopefully he is eating when I am not there. Never thought I would be struggling to grow algae.

Kevin, if you are still around, are there any tricks you've used to get these guys to eat in Divers Den? I know he was eating before he arrived.

Still has no interest in nori even if you shred it up in the water column?

Nope, he is always biting/scraping the walls trying to get the algae but he doesn't go for anything else.

I ended up snagging this guy, a S. Iserti -

The new S. Iserti just got here today, and after 6 hrs in QT, he is chomping down on mysis like there is no tomorrow.

I am starting to think that the S. Rivulatus might be too old to get him to reliably eat new foods. The new guy is about half the body mass even though it is only ~1 inch shorter.

I feed a lot 7-8 times a day and after while my quoyi only grown about 1/2"-1" max

Anyway i need your Opinion guys
One of the veterinarian claim that he have a few of this in his tank and he says the more the better for these beauties. I had a pair before but i made a mistake of removing the largest one. So i am trying again to have a pair, trio, or even harem of 3-3.5" already have all the small Quoyi and caught the 4.5" that i have for a while now because its a little aggressive on the new guys.

Should i try a pair, trio or harem

Thanks

Kevin Kohen posted on here that in his experience, and ones he's known, it doesn't work, so I'd pass on trying to keep more than one.

I can't remember if you said you had try enticing with garlic on the food or not?

Yep, I tried this. Also tried just dumping in bits of garlic by itself. He just didn't seem interested in anything. Unfortunately he has finally passed, after 2.5 months of almost no food.

I never had issues with them eating
I had a few too. They love to graze when they are comfortable after that they eat everything and everything

Heads up, there is a Scarus rivulatus coming up in divers den today. Hopefully someone here can snag it and get him happy... and share pics :)

And on that note, I'm seriously debating on what to do with my qouyi. I think I may sell him. His colors had gotten so muddy/muted, that he's, quite frankly, unattractive at this point. :(

I finally got a qouyi a few weeks ago and he is happy in QT. I also picked up a pink face wrasse at the same time, surprisingly enough the wrasse is so brightly colored that it almost outshines the qouyi. I'll have to see how the colors are after time.

Marine fishes Prices

Marine fishes Prices

I hate to break it to you guys but it seems like the prices in the US etc is rather steep for marine fishes.

Here in Singapore, Quoyi parrotfishes are available at the ubiquitous farms/LFS island-wide. I can get a 6-8" for a mere $SGD15 which is about $USD12.
I got my 30cm emperor angelfish for SGD$40 (I was able to select from the 13 emperors available in a store at the time i went there). The quality of the fishes are also rather good. The emperor itself was an aggressive eater while it was in the Qt. It loved the New era pellets (I had to lump them up to create larger Pellet balls). The Quoyi parrot that i acquired didn't actually swim much in the QT but now that its in my fowlr DT, its much better. It's shredding my large live rocks though :(
