Rae's pics-of EVERYTHING!!!

Sooooo, my cousin had a baby 3 weeks ago, the baby lived 5 days, and then passed away. This was completely unexpected and devistating to our family. My cuz, Amy, and I have been like sisters since we were born....so today, we hit the local tattoo shop to get our memorial tattoos. Mine was the addtion of the red flowers and the butterly, whos "feet" say "MMKM" the baby's initials.

Harold....where R U?????????? COME ON MAN!?!?!?!:wavehand:

Sorry to hear about your families loss Rae. I've lost multiple family members myself this past year and really feel your pain.
I've been lurking in the background for quite a while but haven't been in the mood to contribute to any of the forums that I frequently visit because my head and heart hasn't been in to it lately for multiple reasons (one being listed above).
My wife and I just took our family and one of my oldest daughters friends on a road trip to Chicago where we visited the Shedd Aqaurium and many other awsome attractions between Christmas and New years. The Shedd has one of nicest Marine Reef displays of any Aquarium I've ever visited. The only problem is the place is kept fairly dark and they don't allow flash photography and to top it off, the place was PACKED with Holiday visitors....makes getting nice pics a challenge.
Love the Addition to your Tat.

You have indeed gone through a lot lately Harold--glad to see you are posting again.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Rae & Harold, I'm so sorry to hear about your recent losses!

Rae, love the new ink! Such creativity!!

Rae, regarding the water changes, here's what I do, not sure if it will work for you...My water changes normally run around 8g every 2 weeks. I used to do the straight tap water method and using warm tap water from the bathtub. Mind you, the "bucket brigade" through the house and down 2 flights of stairs was not fun, but the cold water shock I did for years before then was worrying me. It just seemed strange that all my livestock seemed to just cringe every time they saw me near the tank with buckets in hand. So within the last year, I finally bit the bullet ande bought a 20g garbage can with wheels, a cheap pond pump and hose, cheap/small air pump with airline tubing and airstone, and a small heater. I roll the can to the bottom of the stairs and fill to level with water so at least my trips up & down aren't so bad anymore. Then add salt, etc, heater, and airstone and give it a few hours (or overnight if I'm pressed for time) to equilibrate and check/adjust water chemistry. Once I have the water ready, it takes me literally 10 mins to do what used to take me an hour. Then, when I'm not distracted with one of my kids in crisis, I just drain water out of the display, set up the pond pump and hose between the garbage can and sump (in your case the display), and turn on the pond pump. By this method, I see an immediate positive "boost" in the tank inhabitants, which is what everybody wants. I thought I was a total genius figuring this out until I found out zillions of people do it this way.

Sure hope something like this could work for you!

Happy New Year to Rae and all of my "RC Buddies"!

Sorry to hear about the losses.

I hope everyone has a good 2010 and that the activity on RC highlights some shining tanks!

I went to visit my LFS and drop some $$ and...lights out, nobody home! Looks like my go-to place is out of business. I am so bummed! I feel really bad for the owner 'cause I have known him for many years. What's worse for me is that now my nearest LFS (that I would trust) is in Baltimore - an hour away! I haven't checked out everything Delaware has to offer yet but so far I am not all that impressed with what I've seen. Did I mention how bummed I am?!

On a lighter note, I went to feed my fish some thawed mysis today and I thought I was dreaming when I watched my mandarin chow down on a piece that floated his way! So I got my turkey baster and tried to "spot" feed him and sure enough! I am really pleased as this is the first mandarin I've owned in 15 years of reefing that has eaten prepared food! Very, VERY cool. Definitely balances out the previous bummer.

Rae, any chance you can get to Maryland? I used to sell frags to my LFS which is no longer, and I'm not going to drive an hour each way with 3 kids in tow on the off-chance the next store will treat me as nice as the last guy. I have a little of everything - some easy colorful SPS and LPS, various shrooms, and some star polyps. And snails, specifically strombus maculatus.

Hey Sunny....soooooooo, just so happens...my hubbs fam lives in Towsond, and Baltimore......He hehe he he! We will be visiting this summer, for sure!

So sorry to here about your LFS...I would DIE if mine went out of buisness.....I have a WONDERFUL one here...Love it!

Happy to hear about your Gob. GREAT news! Go GIRL!

Kewl! So PM me when you know the dates you will be around and I will set some stuff aside for you. Who knows, by then I may even have finalized my plans for the in-wall build and you can be the first to see it!

i need some advice on my torch coral. it is not doing poorly, but sure isn't thriving....suggestions? Spot feeding?
