We need to keep this as simple as possible sorry. I know this alienates current Mitras users but if we have little issues running this charity donation I will look at doing another in the New Year.

But then if you are a Mitras user and you won you can sell on and use that for more GHL stock ;)

well according to some legality and USA gaming laws we are not supposed to offer you guys a raffle, so will have to find another way.

Not given up yet!

Could it be called "Donation with possible prize"? or something like that?

I know there is a way to do it because I've seen it done before I just can't put my finger on the correct "wording" of it at the moment....

I thought a contest which requires some type of skill (ex: a photo contest) was legal because there is not an equal chance of winning said prize. As I understand it, raffles are lotteries because they don't require a skill and everyone has equal chances of winning based on number of tickets sold. Contests (requiring skill) would not fall under this, IMO.

Why don't you post this idea on some more of the Canadian forms and see what type of response you can get?

Worth a try.

Same laws apply here too.

Yes I might have to turn this into a paid entry competition.

Macna - yes I thought about that too. Maybe as not giving to charity? Seems the tax office dont like you giving money to charities, they cant tax you!

paid entry competitions can be anything from funniest/cutest photos, essays, etc. You could probably even do something like prize goes to the entrant who comes up with the best slogan for your company, etc.

Michael,
If you are conducting any kind of raffle or contest I seriously suggest you contact a lawyer before proceeding any further because you do not understand the laws enough to do this. As the owner of a company in Canada you can be charged for not correctly doing this properly......especially if you are charging people to enter . If money is to go to a charity then the law becomes even more challenging.....
Lots of companies, organizations, etc get away with conducting such raffles and contests illegally all the time and rarely are they charged.....but you are making this very open to the world by posting here. This is my suggestion to you.

Please read my posts above you will see we are trying to find a way to do it legally. I think that point has been made very clear, if not we would be marching ahead with it.

FYi a USA lawyer has been contacted a very well known one in the hobby who instructed GHL accordingly and who first brought the issue to our attention. (even though i made it very clear my upset to the news when trying to help a very worthy cause)

As it stands for obvious reasons we are looking at ways of giving to Cancer charities in a legal way, if that can not be acheived then it will not happen.

Why is it always the government in the way of things.

Why do people keep electing politicians for bigger government so they can have control over us, eludes me everyday.

These laws are in place to protect to the public from criminals so hold fraudulent types of raffles or such.....they government does not make any money off most of these things....they are actually quite simple rules and can all be found by doing a simple google search....companies or people in general do things like this all the time without breaking any laws....but the biggest problem lies in the population you are restricted to.....the can't meet the laws for every country or state....this is why a lot of contests are only open to certain states or countries....ever notice this? The laws are not hard to understand and just because you do not understand something does not mean it is stupid or that you should just go blaming the people who made them or become outraged in general....they make sense to me....just saying....
