Rare Anemone at Ki's

You talk about the morphology in deciding that it is an E. quad but you didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t detail what exactly you got from the pics that made you draw the conclusion you did.

The morphology of this complex is very tell tale, and is quite different from members of other genera. The photos do a fine job and leave nothing to question. The roses fairly consistently show different charcteristics in the structure of their tenticles than the green varieties (a fact which leads me to believe they deserve at least sub-specific status) and the rose offered for sale here is no different.
It's a rose anemone, E. quadricolor. A nice one maybe, maybe even an outstanding one. However trying to off it at $1200 to some poor sucker is bound to raise the ire of quite a few folks.

bottom line is that no one who has seen this anemone thinks i am a liar. so maybe it is time to admit you are wrong .

So what in these pictures led you to believe it was a E. quadricolor? It seems you just said a whole lot of nothing.

This is not a very good analogy as there are more than a few pool builders in Florida just like this (who are still in business). It would not surprise me if Rick has had to clean up after some of them on occasion.

You have made my point eventhough I wasn't claiming Rick was this type of business person, but defending the ability to be a slimeball is almost as bad.

"There are other slimeballs out there so I can justify ripping off anyone who is dumb enough to do business with me - I'm not as bad as some of the other guys..."

Sorry. It don't fly.

We take care of our customers and educate them to the differences of good business people and fly-by-night slimeballs.

What ever happened to ethics in business?

Geez.

Oh and please just leave the person alone. It does nothing to ridicule this person for something that is merely their prerogative. If I wanted to sell a bag of my old toenails on eBay for 1200 bucks and you think it is stupid, don't buy them, just go on with your life. I am sure you can find other, more important, things to do. If you were misled by the ad, then email the seller to clarify, if they offer no more information then be a smart consumer.

If you saw a picture of a yellow tang, what in that picture would lead you to believe it's a yellow tang? If you saw a picture of an emperor angel, what would lead you believe it's an emperor vs a navarchus? Well in your case, you might now know. However for those of us who know these organisms it's obvious. To me, I might as well be looking at one of the two species I mentioned above, it's that apparent.

Color is NOT a valid factor and is never used to define a species boundry people.

As I said, it may be a spectacular anemone - that's not what's at issue here.

Anyone who knows what they are talking about would identify that anemone as an E. quad - however nice. Roses are HIGHLY VARIABLE in their color, and range from brick red, bright pink, rose red to orange. Some have green bases - I have one of these as well though admitedly not as nice as the one you have listed if I'm to believe the descriptions.

What happened to your contention that people here at Reef Central knew what they were talking about, and I should come here to find the truth?
Why don't you check the mulitude of threads both here and at Reefs. org and see what all the experienced reefers think of your listing?

Wow (putting face closer to monitor) this is getting better all the time.

Ok, maybe not! Is this going anywhere?

If I was a toenail collecter I wouldn't have a problem at all as long as you called them what they are, and didn't try and pass them off as something else. :)

Bill and Ted never brought him back, so we'll never know.

Oh and Murfman, that Orange you have keep and eye on it at the next meeting. ::D: I am thinking maybe a Big Gulp filled with Salt water, no ones looking....see ya Murf thanks for the memories.
