Red Bugs?

Why don't you just take the coral out that looks like it has the most red bugs and dip it, if you have flat worms you will most likely find some big ones in the dip water. Hope they are not flat worms. Red bugs are not too difficult to get rid of, and the med does not seem to affect acros, just crabs, shrimp, pods.

Red bug, in my opinion I wouldn't worry about them too much.
Now if they were AEFW i might loose some sleep.

Why are people saying both??? The easiest way to tell aefw is bite marks, and I don't see anything. Also, you're not going to see AEFW in a photo like that. Stop giving the poor guy extra cause for alarm. It's pretty clear he has red bugs and the treatment for them is pretty straightforward and safe.

I've had AEFW's before. As far as I can see on the photos, all I see is Red Bug looking creatures.
Also, with AEFW's its FAR easier to see the bitemarks than the actual AEFW on a coral! The bitemarks are like small white pock marks which stands out against the brown or coloured body of the acro.
Aaron, are you able to get the meds to treat RB's in the UK?

Wow, it looks like red bugs. Whoever is saying flatworms, have you ever had them or even seen them for that matter? I don't see anything even remotely similar to a flatworm in the photo.
I am tired of this happening, it happens all the time in my locks forum, then the op will freak out pulling all acros and other corals (since they don't know they only infect acros. It's horrible and funny at the same time.
All I can say is the aefw come hand in hand sometimes. A lot of experiences are people getting rid of red bugs then the aefw show their ugly faces shortly after.

Don't think we can get interceptor here Sahin and I'll need to look into the legalities of ordering it from the states. I may be able to get meds online in this country with the active ingredient. I do regularly look for signs of AEFW and Nudis on the corals, I guess I overlooked these bugs when I check the corals as I'm so busy looking for the other two.

I got quite a fright from reading some of the earlier post in this thread because I do shop at one or two of the places you go to and for a good 10 minutes had a crazy thought that I must have AEFW's as well. :uhoh3:
I checked my acros with a flashlight last night and no bitemarks or anything else.
Well, I hope all you got is Redbugs. No way bad a as AEFW's. Goodluck with killing them off.

Definitely Red Bugs Aaron. You need to do an Interceptor tank wide treatment, I'm sure some other reefers should be able to point you in the right direction. Good thing is that they shouldn't cause too much damage in the meantime. You do have some inverts in your tank though if I recall correctly (crabs and shrimp), they may not survive the treatment so your best bet is to get them out temporarily if you can.

There is another possBile solution to red bugs and that's a dragon faced pipe fish. Try this before treating the entire tank and as a last resort use interceptor.

I think that is fine and dandy as a treatment if you want to pursue it that way, just as long as people who do this do so with transparency and don't trade frags or corals without letting the buyer know. Personally, I like to trade frags or sell frags here and there to other reefers to spread out some SPS that have taken well to aquaculture. I wouldn't think of doing that without having treated my tank at least twice with interceptor first. To me Interceptor is my first treatment for RB's, rather than a treatment of last resort. But that will depend on where you are trying to go with your system, and if you are planning on selling/trading frags in the hobby (which I think most people do, but not all).

I've ordered the Pipefish, hoping to get them this week. There will be a delay in receiving Interceptor from the other side of the world so I'm not going to be able to treat quickly.I do have concerns about losing critters that I can't remove, stuff like acro crabs and pom poms. I don't have any shrimps anymore. I certainly wouldn't pass on stuff without letting the other person know as I wouldn't want it done to me.
