redtop03's 360 gallon plywood adventure

matt, thats the bad part about the air going out,if you had a window unit for that room,it would be handy right now.....can you set some fans over the water to help keep the heat down also ? thats all I use to keep mine cool, but I have the window unit running,it stays about 72 in there,my water stays around 76

mightyevil, that sump looks good.....it needs some water running through it though....;)

I have two fans on the water, but the room temp is about 90. Water temp got up to 85.5. Got it down to 82.3 today. I'm hoping not to have any coral losses. They're not happy right now though.

thats a bit warm in the room.....I hope they can stand the temp. change, that'd be bad to loose anything....82 isn't too bad,but if you've had it running cooler than that, the sudden increase might harm 'em some....I'll bet their P.O.ed at you right now :furious:

I have the 360 filled to the bulkhead(for the closed loop)and using it for a drain to the sump, and I am pumping water from the sump to all 3 tanks now,I'm slowly mixing the new water with the water in the 120 and the 72....I'll let 'em run like that for a while, then start moving my coral and fish to the 360....I'm trying to avoid any shock to anything with the change in water chemistry....everything is looking great right now :D I think I'll need about 60 more gallons of water to finish filling the 360 once I have the 120's water in it,but the ro/di is working on it :)

I hope to have everything, moved by this evening or tomorrow morning....I took the 150 to my sisters yesterday, shes already got it half full........once mine is running on it own, she's getting all my old equipment to go back on the 150,so it'll be almost like it was, again :).......I hated taking down that tank....but out with the old and in with the new ;)

We have Air!!! I know my fish and corals will be happy.:bounce1: :bounce2: :bounce3:  :fish1: :celeb1: :celeb3: :celeb2:

Looks like you're getting close. You get to hook up the Hammerhead tomorrow:D

That is true for the most part.

Corals can adapt very well to a lot of harsh conditions. I'm proof, I'm bad about putting off water changes and stuff until "tomorrow" then "tomorrow"..... then I get around to it a few weeks later haha.

In the video, the corals have grown and adapted to that enviornment.
It's not the temp that's the main problem in the aquarium, it's what the elevated temp does. Higher temps cause higher metabolic rates in everything in the aquarium, including bacteria, that consumes oxygen. Warmer water also has lower oxygen levels. A few degrees increase can lower oxygen levels 7% to 10%. Lower oxygen and higher metabolic rate can cause oxygen shortage. Also, some bacteria that lives in the aquarium can be pretty harmless at normal temps, but at about 82 to 84 degrees some of these can become virual and cause RTN. Vibro is one virus that can be controlled to some extent by temp. So, maintaining reef temps a little below 80 can go a long way in preventing some diseases and maintain oxygen levels. It's not as bad in the ocean because of the constant supply of new water, but in our closed systems things can get out of wack.

great video

I see, pretty interesting stuff. Well, I hope my aquarium stays pretty cool once its up and running, mainly why I went with T5s, here in SoCal my smaller freshwater aquariums have reached up to 87 degrees (poor cichlids).

Matt, thats good the air is working again, now you can get the temp back under control.................

my big o pump will be here tomorrow :D
I'll have wait until I can get the OM before I can hook it up though :(

I did find the little giant pump that I plan to use for $150 at a local pet store....$200 is best as I could find on line,so I have that now....my SCWD should be here in a few days......got most of my plumbing for the drains and the return today :)

got my 120 out of the way now,all my stuff is in the 360 now...still need more saltwater, but its almost full

got the 150 set up at my sisters house, complete with my old sump and pump and all the plumbing.....it was easier to connect everything this time than it was the first time I plumbed it :D

if I don't go back to work soon,I'm gonna need a vacation

Shoulda taken some pics Willie, you know thats our fuel.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow, the water is still cloudy......I didn't try to stack my rock or anything, just kinda threw it in there

here is some of my mess,I'm not sure how I'm gonna plumb it yet...so its just temporary right now,I had in mind to run 1 of the over flow drains split between my skimmer and fuge and the other drain as a safety, but with the little giant running, both drains are running almost full,so I'm thinking I may feed the skimmer and fuge with a tee off the little giant......my durso's work great...I think I might need to raise 'em a little, the waterfall you see in the pics is noisy

The tank looks great. I'm ready to start building mine now. I think the rock work looks pretty good like it is. The flow looks good too.

I'm getting impatient to start mine. I've got the fever now. I'm just upset I had to spend my tank fund on a new air conditioner :(

that bites, having to replace the AC........but it should be trouble free for 8 to 10 years now

I may move the rock a little more but it wont be much,I need to do something with the light,I don't have matching bulbs for both fixtures, and I don't like the 12000k( more like 10000k) aqua trader bulbs in the fixture on the left side of the tank,so I didn't have them lit.

after seeing THIS pic, i have come to the conclusion that the tank is entirely too small & you must IMMEDIATELY break it down & redo it....only bigger this time

sweet jebus that thing is

 I don't know what I was thinking,I still have 21" of space on either side,I'll try to do better next time:lol:

I don't have the wood yet. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy some wood next week, or just buy the epoxy and fiberglass and buy the wood next month. I really want to get started, but I don't know which is worse. Having the epoxy and not being able to start or having the wood and not being able to finish once I start. hmmm.

21 inches of wasted space that could be filled with water :)

The flow looks really good from the pics. The OM and the Hammerhead is going to be awsome.

Which Little Giant did you go with?
Which bulbs do you have lit?

somebody didn't follow the "meausre twice...cut once" rule

otherwise they'd have a 520g instead of a 360g

LOL
