GE had to change the labels on the new tubes of GE silicone 1. see this pic..

The new stuff is on the left, and the old crusty tube I had leftover in the caulk gun is like what you used.

It even has the same SKU as the old tube, but i like to overthink things.

I might call GE and verify it is the same.

So you sanded your tank where the silicone is bonding? is that necessary?

Here is my tank, all ready for the glass to come in..

the tank is looking great....I doubt that the sanding is necessary but it don't hurt anything.....I noticed that GE changed their tube design, last time I was in Lowes,I needed another tube to seal a leaking 30g that the pet store gave me,Lowes was higher on their price so I went back to Wal Mart and got a tube, they still had the old tube design in stock,so it's a very recent change.......I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff,it wouldn't hurt to call and make sure....

Very nice job---what size is the tank?

193 gallons

62" wide x 24" tall, x 30" deep.

This was made per the way they make them on fingerlakes, but with a eurobrace as the top.

In many ways it is like willie's 360g, as far as construction and appearance. I did some things differently, but it has taken me a while to make due to me being so exacting on things.

Thanks, I hope to have it filled very soon.

Did you see the comparison of the new tube vs the old tube?

new on the left, but same SKU, but 9mL less in the new tube.

:lol:I didn't notice that there was less in the tube, they're trying to make a little extra money.....less product for the same price

wow great site

if you want to know any thing about any part of a plywood tank, that's the place to be :D

I think thats the trick to making these things work,is to narrow the stream right before it leaves the main pipe...have that stream spray through the slightly larger pipe, thats whats causing the suction from behind it,the more velocity through there, the more through the holes :)

First off, I want to say that this was an awesome thread and DIY to follow... The added humor along the way also provided for some well needed entertainment.

Anyhow, concerning the above.... I honestly don't know why these have not been more popular. The Navy has used this theory for dewatering flooded spaces on ships for eons.... no moving parts, more reliable, safer (no electricity), not to mention portable. Anyhow, the true name for this device is an eductor.... you can search several places to get more info and pics on these... with a couple different types in use.... "S" type and peri-jet for example.

I like the last setup you had for these nozzles.... and I look forward to seeing these things rock on that hammerhead.....

Bill

redtop,

On fingerlakesreef I saw you mention epoxy from fiberglasssite.com - I haven't read this whole thread, but how did you like it? It's practically half the price of MAS or West Systems.

I liked using it,very low odor and seems to be a good product....I would definitely use it again, the other stuff may be better,I don't know, this is all that I've ever worked with

Well, it's dirt cheap, and if it worked for you that's good enough for me.

Which hardener did you use, and how long did you wait between coats? Did you have to sand?
