Reef Brite LED's - Now Taking Orders!

Snookster great shots. Could you let me know what settings you are using and the camera. I currently have 4 RB's 2 blues 1 white and 1 50/50 and can't seem to get quality pics.
Thanks for any help

I took these with my old Olympus c-740. I use it with the tank because it allows me to preset the white balance and it has a pretty good macro if I choose to use it. I dropped the WB 3 notches into the red and set the ISO to 100. Having an adjustable WB is critical to get good pics IMO.

My other camera is a Sony, which doesn't have any way to adjust the WB, it has to all be done post-processing. One day, I'll break down and get a nice SLR.

How many strips and what color do you think for a cube, 24" x 24" x 24"?

Edit: I currently run a 4 x t5ho and have some softies, LPS and a few SPS high up on the rocks.

Hi.

I got my Reef Brite 50/50 yesterday. My tank is a Elos System 120 XL.
Size: 120 cm*80cm*55cm.My main light is a ATI 8*54 watt.
50/50 blue+ and fiji purple.
The main purpose with the Reef Brite was to get shimmer effect.I have seen some videos on You Tube and the reef brite looked great.
But I have to say that I am disapointed..I get hardly any shimmer effect with the Ati on.
I have also tried to use only the Reefbrite ,and I dont understand how this LED lamp can deliver twice the PAR of an ATI tube..???

Especially the video on You tube with the guy using it on a 600 gallon tank to show the effect of a 24 inch reef brite..
I am not even close with a twice the size led lamp and app 130 gallon..
Any suggestions..??
Please forgive my bad english

Best regards Stavanger,Norway

You have 8 t5s and 1 reef brite? If that's the case, your t5s seriously outnumber the 1 reefbrite. I'm not sure you'd get much shimmer with 2 either. 8 t5s would be pretty bright.

I'm running 1 reefbrite and 4 t5s and get very little shummer - but then that's not what I was after when I got it. You would have to add more LEDs or reduce the number of t5s if shimmer is what your after. I think the whites also would provide better shimmer too.

Agreed, with 8 x T5's, you're not going to get a ton of noticeable difference with it, you would want 2 of them. In addition to that, if you're wanting shimmer out of it, I recommend the white's, as those will give you more noticeable shimmer affect than what the blue will.

Hi.
Yes,I know that my ATI lamp is quite powerful:beer:
But before I ordered the Reef Brite led,I tried my Elos Elite lamp(wich I use on my nano Elos tank) to see if those leds could give shimmer effect in my 120 XL.
And so it did,but of course with quite lousy spreading..:)
But I am quite happy with the reef brite moonlight. The strange thing about it,is when I compare the light output on the moonligt vs the 48 ",it seems to me that the moonlight gives higher light output?.Both lamps side by side on the floor.
Jeremy: to have excactly the same light output as my ATI,how many reef brite do I need? 6-7??

I have no experience with the elos led but reefbrites are only powered to 1 watt and have no optic lenses to concentrate the light.

I agree you should of went all white if you wanted a shimmer look but I think that still would of been washed out also. With my 8 bulb powermodule it washes out my 2 all blue reefbrites but I still have them on as I see alittle bit of difference in the pop in my zoas and acans

Did you by any chance get an older model that has the adjustable power supply on it, and it just needs turned up? Where did you purchase this from?

I bought it from Premium Aquatics:strooper:
And it is the new model.
I have also asked for the opinion from my wife, and she also says that the reef brite moonlight gives more light output..

Love the look of the lights. Right now I only have a 2x54 T5 setup and was looking to pick up a set of leds to go along with them. I have a standard 55g and was thinking a 50/50 and a Blue would look good along with the two t5s to round out the spectrum, only problem is I can't hang the lights.

Do you know if there is an option to mount them on the aquarium or how hard do you think it would be for me to hit home depot and rig something up?

That's interesting, they both should be driven by the same wattage. I confirmed with ReefBrite, and they said there is no difference in how those two are being driven.

They come with "L" brackets on the end of them. You could flip the bracket upside down and try to mount to the edge of the aquarium somehow.

Jeremy, Do the reef brite flexible led strips have the same lights as the fixtures? Can you tell me how the flexible strips compare to the fixtures?

Jeremy,
Also, for a 90gal FOWLR with a few shrooms and softies, do you think I could get away with using 1 or 2 of the Reef Brite 48" fixtures? If you think 2 would be best, how would this compare to the new Marineland 48"-60" Reef LED fixture (and are the new Marineland Reef LEDs available now)?

Sorry for all the questions but since my setup is not a full blown SPS system my requirements are a little different.

Any word on how long it will be until Reefbrite releases the bigger power supplies and splitter cords so that multiple 3-4' strips can be powered off a single power supply?

Hi Jeremy.
Yesterday my 48" said goodbye. I have checked the power supply and that is okay. The moonlight is still functional and I am very satisfied with it:-)
But it seems that the 48 " was build poorly.I have mentioned earlier that the moonlight had higher light output compare to the 48".And now it is broken..:-(
So I dont know what to do.. pay 80 Us dollar to send it to the Us or just throw it in the gar*****...
