Reef Octopus "POV" PRO-SSS-DC1 thoughts?

He sent a new silencer...can't see inside of it though, no idea how it is built! First thing that came to mind is it will somehow reduce the air intake, but what if that puts the intake lower than it should be? Running the skimmer without the silencer had no effect on the problem at all.

Still don't understand why every single POV DC1 they have made doesn't have this problem, but only a select few. How is a, supposedly, redesigned silencer going to make it operate like all the others when the problem isn't the pump, volute, impeller, controller, body?

Also don't know which end goes up -_- Will install it as soon as I get home and report back.

Looks like RE(royal exclusive) silencer. May contain foam. Definitely regulating air, not sure why there instead of newer Venturis you've tried.

Ends don't matter, unless specified imle

As suspected a new silencer did NOTHING and am a little insulted that they assumed it would.

Sent Jeremy a request for a new skimmer. If he wont do it I'll have to dig up the contact information for the owner of the company. I'm done with this nonsense.

Is the noise in your video coming from the pump location itself?

If you plug all the holes on the silencer so no air is coming in does this sound go away and the skimmer run silent or is the sound still there?

Is the video of the skimmer of just the skimmer running or is there other equipment running in the background?

Is the skimmer skimming out the fish poop at all properly?

Im not caught up on your entire situation so thats why im asking.

Yes.
Sound stops.
Return pump is the only other thing running, but it is nearly silent.

I've gone over all of that and a lot more with Jeremy...back and forth multiple times on the problem. I've been dealing with this far longer than I should have been in my opinion.

They can send me a new one and play with mine on their own time later :)

If the sound stops when you plug the silencer what would make you think there is a problem with the pump? In all honesty setting aside the fact that sound is subjective, my skimmer sounds like frothing coming from the silencer, if I plug it it goes away, seems like its just a noisy design. However, all my equipment is behind a wall since my tank is built into the wall, so I really pay no attention to sound. You can see from my pics and videos how it does perform so i never gave it any thought. Its really hard to tell from the videos but mine does sound a bit "similar" to yours. Has the skimmer been up and running long enough to gauge its general performance? What is the tank size and bio load?

EDIT: around the 1 minute mark of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itl57qvKhKU you can hear my silencer. I do have the dryer on in the background and you can hear my drain gurgle after i shut the return down.

The sound is coming from the pump area, plugging the silencer only stops the sound because it stops the draw of air. The noise isn't the skimmer simply being loud. Jeremy also thought it was possibly the pump which is why I was sent a new pump, volute and impeller to try weeks ago.

Still waiting for a response from Jeremy on a replacement skimmer.

Jeremy guaranteed me a refund, not a credit, on my skimmer if I return it clean, undamaged and with all parts/pieces. I suggested he send me a new one and I'd return the defective one when I receive the new one, but that apparently wasn't an option. Guess I'm lucky I was even able to get a return shipping label for it.

So after about three months of trying to fix this thing (that was defective out of the box), I'm returning it and going with a different company. It was my first reef octopus/coral vue product purchase and will be my last.

ATB 840

that was my fallback if this one didn't work out. There are many threads about them on here. Great skimmers.

Like Seiryoku, I just received "the fix", a muffler. Has no effect whatsoever. Skimmer continues to chug and literally bounces on the egg crate stand when I adjust the bubble column to the proper height. After two months of this....a muffler!

If this is the level of support from RO we can expect, I would caution people about buying the brand. Though most appear to work, when something goes wrong, you may be stuck with slow service or none at all.

I'll report back on where this goes next.

I was honestly offended, and ****ed off, when I opened the box and saw a new silencer. Could have told them it wouldn't change a thing if he would have told me that is what I was being sent.

Despite all of this I was willing to stay with a POV DC1 if they sent me a new one, and allowed me to keep the old one until the new one arrived, as not to be without skimming/aeration, but the answer to that was no.

Jeremy said I'd have to ship it to them and they would repair it or replace it if they could verify the problem. The if in his statement didn't sit well with me...

Hope it ends well for you and me both, but as of now I'm done with it!

Have you tried to go through the reseller you bought it from?

My dc3 has been working like a champ. So good in fact I've taken summer off from the tank. After about a month or so I never adjusted it again. It runs full blast and just keeps pulling gunk out. I have auto cleaning head and remote collection cup and only clean it out about every three weeks. I thought my old atb worked good but no where as well as this skimmer. I haven't even been on reef central for couple months things are going so well. It sounds like dc1 might have problems but not mine.

I just got a DC1. Can anyone tell me what these extra parts are? THey aren't on the manual diagram. The clear part is a rigid tube. The black elbow is rubber. The white piece is another section of hose that's bigger in diameter than the one that goes to the air intake.

Also, the instructions are all but worthless. The little air intake piece has a cone on one side but it doesn't tell you if the cone part should face up or down.

That is for your cup drain assembly if you choose to use it or just the plug. Kinda a weak design just my opinion. It goes with the clear tube into the drain if I recall
