What you see, is what they don't mess with. There has been plenty of other things that they devoured...mostly LPS related. It has been somewhat of an experiment to find the right corals to live with these fish.

The Goldflake angel is somewhat of a picker, same for the Queen. The behavior is most pronounced when a new coral/rock is introduced. They pick at the new rock for the fresh epifauna, maybe taste the coral, but rarely devour it (now that we have some idea/experience with what the will and won't devour).

Betta 132-

There is pods galore. He had a mandarin for quite a while, when the tank was younger. There are two Blue Linkia starfish, as well as a couple of Fromias. They have all been in there for a year and half or so. Not sure who "Mr. Thumbprint" is, but thanks!

Thank you for the compiments! The lighting consists of 2 X 36" Tek light (4 X 39 watt) and 2 X 24" Tek light (4 X 24 watt) fixtures, as well as a Vertex 48 " LED light bar.

That bite-the-new-stuff behavior is something you see with freshwater shrimp. They absolutely SWARM anything new, especially if it's been in another tank, but they lose interest after they get done picking it over.
The swirly blue one at the bottom in the first pic. Can't remember the species name... Korean angel? Or is it a baby emperor? Whatever the name, he's very pretty.
Impressive, keeping those stars alive! Those rarely survive, but I guess with all the experimenting with corals you've managed to introduce something the stars like.
I love the gorgonians... what do you feed them? Do you feed them at all?

Ahhh...the blue swirly fish is a juvenile Emperor Angel. The success of the starfish, I'm assuming, is due to the fact that there is between 600 and 700 lbs. of live rock. The gorgonians aren't fed directly, but they are a larger polyped variety, and can easily capitalize on the amount of PE mysis shrimp that goes into the tank.

Yep, you are remembering correctly. The Scribbled passed earlier this year. She was one of the original fish.

I only have 2 pieces of coral in my tank, a nice hammer and a zoa colony from LA. My Gold Flake snarfed my zoos, but hasn't touched the hammer coral at all.

I want to add some nice LPS, but we'll see what happens

Do you have any cleaner shrimp in there? If yes, I assume the Harlequin hasn't bothered them?

The Lavartus passed earlier this year, too. We looked at the date of receipt, and she made it a good year and a half, eating euphyllia corals. She was an expensive little fish!


mbauma-

There are 3 cleaner shrimp, and 2 scarlet shrimp. They have been in there for over 3 or 4 years. The Tusk hasn't looked twice at them. I'm more intrigued, that the clown trigger hasn't touched them, nor the 2 urchins, the Sally light foot crab, or all of the starfish. However, I believe the Clown trigger and Harlequin Tusk have both contributed to the sudden decline in hermits! Haha!
