Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

I just installed three value fixtures on my 125. What's the best way to ramp up the levels to let the corals adjust. To make things a little confusing, it seems that the dials aren't exactly as sensitive as each other across the different fixtures.

Thanks for any guidance you can offer on this!!

Guys, I was trying to help with my shadowing between units and removed the optics on the outer two LEDs and left the 90's on the middle LEDs which amounted to a 3 x 7 area of them. This didn't work as it made a spot like effect similar to what I already had. Logan at RB has suggested removing them all for the best spread and said puting 120's would almost amount to the same thing with only a minor effects on PAR at the bottom of the 20" depth.

Aslo, I noticed that my orange rics and my red blastomussa do not have near the coloration under these LEDs than they did under the T5s. I thought it was the 4500k LEDs but he has suggested covering up the Red LEDs first to see if that does it. In his oppinion he has seen red lights turn red corals gray before. I'm going to try it when I get home but thought I'd throw that out for oppinions as well.

BTW: Logan if you read this thanks for sending out the controller for my problem unit!

Update: I covered the red LEDs and the only thing I noticed was the carnation frag went from a very pretty orange red to a dull color. It didn't seem to make my orange rics or my blastomussa any better. I then put tape over the 4500k LEDs and the color started coming back in those two. Before I only blame the 4500k light this almost amounts to an all Blue, Violet and Red fixture. Some white was getting past the tape but Id say only about 25%.

If I were to change out LEDs what would you change out to. The new stock Photon 16s have 14 4500k LEDs on them. Logan also sells 7500k, 10,000k, 14,000k and 20,000k LEDs. I ultimately want a Phoenix 14k MH look or as close as I can get.

When you say the 120 optics had minor effects on par at 20" as compared to no optics, do you mean with optics the par is a little better?

I was trying to say that Logan told me that I wouldn't notice much of a par drop from a 120 to no optics. He didn't say there wouldn't be one but not as bad as I was afraid it would be. I don't have my clubs PAR meter anymore so I can't test it. I definately have much better spread of light with no optics now. I'm still dissapointed in my Rics and Blastomussa though. I must say everything else is looking great.

OK so basically as far as spread there is not much difference between the 90's and 120's. But the 120's do have less par than the 90's?

Right. The more focused the beam of light the more PAR you get from it. The more you let it spread out the less you get from it directly. You need more focused beams to get to the bottom of deep tanks.

I just discovered this thread. So I have a 120g tank I will be setting up and was about to buy a t5 fixture on ebay for $400 (8 lights x 54w).

From the looks of it this seems like it is a better deal NEW at $500 for a photon 48. Will it be able to grow anything I throw at it? My tank is 24" deep! I know next to nothing about LEDs because I already considered it out of my price range with the normal price range I had seen at $900+ on other brands.

What are the dimensions of your tank? It depends on that and the optics you use for your LED.

4' x 2' x 2'

I guess I am not understanding the LED's. If I bought the photon 48, is that plug and play or is there something else I would need to buy?

Except for hanging them it is pretty much plug and play. There are no leg options so they have to hang. You just need to decide what optics to order on them so you get good par values deeper down. I'm not an expert but Id guess 90's on your tank. My 16s came with stock 120s on the red an moon channels for good dispersion.
