Mike, do us all a favor and buy 2 sets NiMH rechargeables. one set for the charger, one set for the camera. C'mon man!!!!

:D

We did that and after 6 months they wouldn't hold a charge anymore.If I remember right they were rechargeable energizers. Not buying that crap again...

This is skimming wet with the bigger cup, :D The water is just above the flange.

Aquaticman - do you also have the reeflo dart gold on there too? Mine has yet to see water, so Im considering trading my standard in for reefspecialtys pro kit. Im not sure I need to tho, seeing as tho its already overkill for my 238g. decisions, decisions...

He still has the standard dart that came with the skimmer. Mike @ Reef Specialty is testing out the gold pump right now to see what the bennefits this pump will make on the skimmer in performance and longevity.

Mcliffy

I'm not sure the other pump will do us much good. Seems to me the pump would benefit the people with large systems and large bioloads. Mike and Luis will be able to give us a clearer picture as they see the differences, if any running the gold pumps.

I do however think the upgraded cup is a benefit to anyone running these skimmers.

I have tested this skimmer with dart gold pump (with 220v electricity)

Yitman, I don't know what country you're in, but you need to get one of reefspecialty's upgraded cups. You'll have much more control of the skimmate.

So the pro kit list the body as 13" is this correct is the pro a different skimmer than the 250?

Reef Specialty has put together this professional Orca 250 kit to meet the needs of the extreme marine hobbiest. The Pro Kit is what we run on our own 500 gallon SPS tank.

Kit Includes:

ReeFlo Orca 250 Protein Skimmer

ReeFlo Orca 250 is a great new commercial grade protein skimmer from Sequence. Leader in aquarium water transfer technology
The protein skimmer is 13" in diameter and 39" tall with a footprint of 16" x 20".
It can be installed as free standing unit either inside or outside the stand.
It is made of 1/4" cast acrylic.

Updated model now has drain.

Specifications:

* System Capability (gallons): 200 - 800
* Air Flow: 2,545 liters per hour
* Recommended Water Flow: 400-600 gph
* Footprint: 16" x 20"
* Diameter: 13"
* Height: 39"

Reef Specialty 250 Collection Cup

Take your Orca 250 to the next level with Reef Specialties larger size collection cup. Improve your overall skimmer performance and control to your current Orca skimmer!

The neck diameter size is the same as stock, just the necks length and cupsize has been changed.

The Upgraded cup allows for more water volume to enter the skimmer, which in turn adds more pressure in volume. This does add turbulance and would not get good results with the stock cup. The longer neck is used to calm the colmn of air as it reaches the cup. If you believe in dwell time then the longer neck also allows for this. Ultimately it makes the skimmer a better performer.

Reasons why the Reef Specialty cup works better:

- More control over wet and dry skimmate pull
- More water volume can be added
- More dwell time
- The upward air movement in the neck is calmer
- The foam doesn't crown against the cups lid

Measures approximately 16" high x 13" across at widest part, putting the overall height of the Orca 250 to 39"

ReeFlo Dart Gold Pump

New ReeFlo Dart Gold with super quiet fan cooled Baldor motor. The Gold Dart draws less wattage and spin more rpm for maximum performance. The Gold Dart has a glass reinforced Polypro Housing and is 100% made in the USA.

5 Year Replacement warranty.

Max Flow: 3800 gph Max Head: 13 feet Avg. Draw: 132 watts

Dart Gold w/ Needlewheel

1 - 1 1/2" Union and 1 silicon grease

My 250 stopped skimming this past Sunday and has yet to resume.

I put a 40G frag tank on line Sunday (total system volume is ~320G). I had my hands in the frag tank for awhile building the rack structure and think that I may have either introduced something from either my arms/hands or maybe from the PVC/eggcrate/wire ties.

The corals and fish look fine. There's no noticeable changes to either. Yesterday, I wiped down the inner parts of the 250 with a vinegar solution, but that has not helped (yet).

It appears that I'm getting a larger bubble size than normal and that the overall turbulence in the chamber is much more erratic/violent than normal.

I was thinking about tearing the entire skimmer down and cleaning it, the Dart, and the feed pump.

Any thoughts? Should I just let things settle down for a few days?

Thanks

Let things settle down. You must of introduced some type of heavy oils. Take your venturi valve off while the skimmer is running and look inside. Clean any deposits out. That would be the extent I would go to cleaning and maintanace at this time.

The Reeflo 250 pro body is the regular stock production model. The 13" is the diameter of the upgraded cup. The only changes with the pro package seems to be that you get the Reeflo 250 body, the Reef Specialty upgraded cup, the Dart Gold (Baldor Motor) and Reef Specialtys' great customer service. Making this one large skimming machine, a true beast amongst skimmers.:smokin:

Any word on whether the Dart Gold is too much for the Orca 250. I know it will pump more water and air, but it may be too much for this size skimmer and decrease performance. Anyone run one with or without the extension cup for more than 2 weeks?

Looking much better Mike. Love the Dussemeri tang. (that's a real one). Were did all the torches go? I think the tank needs some sand...

The torches went to BP's(Jamie's work tank) tank. There was too much flow for them all.

The only sand in my house resides in my cat litter boxes. :p

Here is about 2 days worth. Really liking the skimmer. :)

On a side note, is it just me that cares that it is not pulling the advertised 2500+lph of air?
