Regal Angel Primer

It appears to be an Indian Ocean. But the angle of the pic and the heavy blue color of the lighting make me unsure. Maybe with full color it would be easier to tell.

Its a Red Sea/Indian Ocean regal juvenile transitioning. The pec and caudal fins are gona color up to yellow as juvies has mostly translucent colored fins.

Here are some other Regal Angel images so you can see what I'm referring to...Look at the length of the gill plate spines compared mine.

These are NOT MY PHOTO'S. I pulled these off the web.

Just a few examples I found.

It's easy to tell. Look at the color of it's chest. If u send a better pic we can tell u. Red Sea have more orange chest. Indian Ocean have more yellow chest. Pacific have grey chest.

all juvi have yellow chest which changes when they reach maturity

I think he is a Pacific. the chest is yellow but hes have some blue grey on it.

In an other note. he was eatting of the rock for the last few day but this AM he was eating several mysis shrimp. I think he will do just fine. I am very happy seeing him eat the mysis.

Wife just called. Regal is MIA !!!
Being from Argentina this kind of fish come ones in a life time. 3 years since I ordered and 300 dollars later only lasted 3 weeks or so.
Last night I feed fish paste and I saw him eat it.

Anyway ... :-(

Was out of town for about 36 hrs. Got back and feed the tank. I am happy to say that not only my Regal feed on the food I put in the tank, but feed aggressively like any other fish. I think that he will be just fine. The torn fin that he had from the Yellow tank within 30 min upon put into the tank have healed. IMO, this is the best indication that he is doing well. None of the other fish pay any special (aggressive) attention to him at this time.
In preparation to put him into the tank, I trapped and removed my medium Powder Blue Tang and put him into the frag tank. The PBT is a good 2 inches bigger than my 2+ Regal
angel. He can be there indefinitely but I wonder when I can return him back into the DT.

I have two options, not having a PBT in my tank is not an option. I can return this PBT back into the DT after 6 months or so (or earlier) or I can sell this PBT and get a smaller PBT and put him into my tank. In fact I already have a offer for this BPT already. If I decided to sell him, he will go to a 93 cube as the only tang/fish other than a pair of clowns in that tank.

What do you guys think? My DT is a 320 gal (72X36 and 30 inches high). I have the following fish in the tank:
Purple tang
Yellow tang
Yellow eye Kole tang
One spot Foxface
Copper band Butterfly
Regal Angel
Wantanabe angel pair
Flame angel pair
Marine Beta pair
Royal Gramma harem (6)
Lyetail Anthias shoal (6)
10 various clowns (I got 9 host anemones in the tank)
2 Magnifica, 3 Haddoni carpets, 4 Gigantea carpets
And a Powder Blue tang in the frag tank

I am removing some of the odds out clowns in the near future if they get abuse. They are doing great now after about 9 months in the tank. The tank have been up for about shy of 1 year. I have planed this tank for a long time. About 1/2 of the rock was in Corpus Christi bay for about 3 months and the rest have been my my various tanks for 10+ years. They also was rock that spend pro long period in the Bay and goes directly to my tank. IMO, my tank have the most diverse Fauna and flora that I have seen. I have tried to diversify the life in my tank and have been able to do this.

There are two more fish that I may add to this system in the future, another Copper Band butterfly and another Regal angel.

What are your guys opinion on what I should do regarding the PBT. Certainly the Regal Angel is my favorite fish in the tank. I do like my PBT very much also, but I can get another much smaller PBT, this would be fine with me if it ensure that my Regal will do well.

That's news to me

I don't claim to be an expert on angels, and I wouldn't dare challenge anything Copps posted on the subject... However... I believe that he is talking about very small Regals (a size rarely seen in LFSs) and IME, the Indos have lost that 'yellow chest' long before 'maturity'. It should be easy to tell if it is a 'yellow belly' or not (in person or with better pics).

I have seen with my own eyes 2" regals with grey chests. Granted it's not as pronounced as a 6" adult but its clearly discernable. Please, I do not want argue. Maybe all really small juvi have yellow chest. I've never seen one under 2" so I'm not the supreme expert on the matter. BTW, Happy Father's Day to all!

How many have had luck pairing these guys? I saw a pair on DD the other day and thought that they would make a nice addition to a tank , especially a big one

I'll get a pic of my 1.5" aussie regal still yellow but slowly changing to blue

I added a juvenile to my tank with a 4" adult over a year ago and they still have not paired. I don't see the torn fins on the small adult anymore, but sometimes there is aggression. I am hoping it will still work out. My Flame Angels only took a few months, I guess I got spoiled and thought the Regals would be easy
