Regal Angel Primer

I forgot I had it in the freezer. I tried some it did take a bite or two. Hopefully it will eat more soon. One thing with Regals is that what works for one may not work for others.

I've had my yellow belly for about 3 months and it first began eating frozen and now has started to really enjoy pellets and is eating nori as well. I definitely still find myself trying to get food in its direction, but it is becoming more bold at feeding time. I thought mine had an issue with stringy poops caused by feeding LRS fish frenzy and I'm wondering if others have experienced this?

No on the stringy poop, I read this from another source but I have not seen it. I feed LRS, Spirulina Brine, and PE Mysis, and Algae Sheets. Plus they have about 200lbs of liverock to graze on.

Yeah, I read about it and had never witnessed it in any of my fish until I got my regal. I ended up putting that fish through multiple rounds of PraziPro to make sure it wasn't an internal parasite. I have a photo of it somewhere, but it would literally string out about 4". I still feed my other fish LRS and it's hard to avoid the regal getting some. I haven't noticed the issue lately though, maybe because it's primarily eating pellets and nori now?

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. As you may know almost 4 weeks ago I purchased a Regal that in 9 days it was dead. It never ate prepped foods and I think it died of velvet. Two weeks ago I purchased a regal from DD. In three days it was eating PE mysis and in 9 days it was eating pellets and flakes. I started TTM prophylactically on day 4 and still eats and maintains weight. I even think it has put on a little belly. I do believe the fish on DD must be cheri picked. It was on their FB page and on the DD title page the day it was listed. Here is a photo. I will post my own photos when it comes out of TTM.

Hey guys i just got my regal angelfish from blue zoo aquatics. The shipment was a day late and the water was freezing cold. he looked dead.... I've acclimated him anyway... He was breaking hard and in really rough shape. Its been 3 days now and he's swimming normally, he's pretty darn fat so he's pulled through which gives me hope if he made it through that. I'm not sure what to start his diet on. He's an orange belly regal just to note. They said they feed them blue zoo mix and love brine. I put a little blue zoo mix in and some brine yesterday.he looked kind of interested but not really. Today i put a clean in the half shell in his pvc pipe.the tank had love rock in it so it's cycled and he's isolated completely in the 40 gallon breeder.

Any suggestions as to get him stayed on some food? Should i keep adding variety or stuck with one,

Try a variety of foods. If you find one he likes, make that the main one you feed and try to add others a little at a time. Good luck with him. Was it in shipping two days?

Yeah two days. Poor thing. I've got a rock paked with yellow sponge, should i put that in there?

Ok so good news!!

Ok so good news!!

My regal is finally eating frozen brine.the problem is, is that he also has ich. Im not Able to do tank transfer method and I'm not going to do hypo because it never works for me.

So I'm left with cupramine. What dosage do i want to do with the angel and how long. I'm currently doing a prazi treatment, just in case of course. I've read multiple times that they're both Doable at the same time. But im concerened about concentration and duration.

There are plenty of post in the Fish Disease Treatment forum discussing the negatives using copper based medications vs. TTM.

I've had to tear apart my entire system twice after doing extended ttm. Ive had 100% sucess with copper so far. I've even killed marine velvet with copper. So the idea of doing ttm just so it can get marine velvet or have ich anyway Is unacceptable. So as stated, I'm not interested in ttm

You stated you were "not able to do tank transfer". Had you stated you were not interested, I would not have bothered to try to help you with TTM. If done properly without cross contamination, TTM works to cure ich.

You need to post your question in the Fish Disease Treatment forum. Better yet, just do a search and I bet you can find the answer yourself.

I appologise for misleading you. But i storage with having to go with the disease abd treatment forum when my question is specialised and I've been directed to this forum

Haha. Is there a problem with cupramine?

Yes, plenty!
Not only is copper not reliable against ich but it also diminishes the fish's immune system which may open the door for much nastier diseases.

My regals also have ich. It's going on for almost two months now and so far they don't seem to be bothered by it. It's not getting worse but rather declines since the initial show of symptoms. I assume they are slowly building up resistance.

I chose to do nothing because right now I wouldn't have a place to put them and all the other fish after treatment. Being in a sterile hospital tank for a couple of months is for sure nothing they would like.
I will shuffle them all through TTM as soon as my 100 gallon tank is up and running for a couple of months, but for now doing nothing is the safest option.

8 year old Regal stopped eating!

8 year old Regal stopped eating!

My 8 year old Regal that i have had for about a year now has stopped eating. What would cause this all of a sudden? The fish looks good swimming around, just not interested in food.

What's his size and did he grow at all since you got him?
Also, where did you get him from that you know he is 8 years old?

Right now the Regal is about 6 to 7 inches.Has not grown since i have had it.Looking back on this thread in 2005 was when Rook got the Regal from another reefer.I picked the fish up about a year ago.
