i look back every once in awhile. but there is so much more out there to be had that i just chalk it up sometimes as i now have more room to try something different.
i know it surely does suck to loose so much. but this hobby has its ups and downs. defilently not a cheap hobby and there is always that chance you take when you buy something new.

Of all of the polyps I have tortured and killed these are the ones I regret the most. Started as a colony of 300 or so and cost me $50. Came in with the rot and it took a month or so to finally lose the last of them
they werent super bright but they were large, these pics are under straight 10k's but the colors of every single polyp in the colony were melted and boiling different than the one next to them, and I have never seen them since. They were also a true black, which isnt seen very often
I found this pic as well looking for the last....these werent that interesting as far as textures, but the color was unlike anything else I have seen. ......under 10k's as well.

these were kind of interesting. tiny...but unique for sure
not sure about these......got a little carried away with post processing maybe.......if they actually exist like that they are kind of cool
yellow and white is(was) a winner
havent seen these since I had them. lots of people *think* they have magicians, but they really have the speckled RPE's, which are not the same. the major difference lies in the color of the spackling.....the spackling on these magicians is neon green just like a PE's mouth and cannot be environmentally morphed to the bluish of the speckled rpe's. If you think you have these get in touch please

these are simply raptors rainbows.....which although sweet are pretty common.....I thought they looked pretty cool like this which is an uncommon form of them. they probably look better as most recognize them, but not nearly as unique. I still have them but they look like everybody elses now

Timanator, sorry to hear this. It's amazing how some things thrive and some do great for years and then they just tank on you. I'm very big on keeping logs and documenting everything. But to be honest, most likely it was nothing you did per se at all. With so many polyps on the market from so many different regions, it is nearly impossible to have a huge system which thrives without some mortality unfortunately. Finding the right balance of all parameters, lighting etc to adequately keep every polyp happy takes time. Once my tank is dialed in just right, I try not to change anything, even then, sooner or later, it's going to happen, DEATH. "Even though you're fed up....keep your head up" my friend.

I feel your pain. The best thing to do is learn from it and move on.

Sometimes there's nothing to learn from. Like Mucho said, they can thrive forever, then just take a dive for the worst.
Polyps are harder to keep than sps
there I said it.
This is coming from soemone who was hardcore into sps before I cared very much if the polyps were there or not.
Now that i am into polyps almost as much as sps(not really almost...but I like them enough to have a system dedicated to them), I have realized that if you lose sps, there is typically a reason for it. It may have been a swing that happned months ago, or something else awry, but they dont just up and die or recede on youvery often without beign able to put your finger on it assuming you have a very stable system.
On the other hand polyps may be able to handle a little less than pristine water parameters, but they are fickle. they will just up and croak on you leaving you without a clue as to why.
When I posted pics in this thread, I didnt mean to downplay timanators losses......honest. I read his original post and read into it he wanted more to chime in. Now that I read everone elses responses I feel like I may have come off like that. Regardless, notice I didnt give any reasons. They dont even matter, and I couldnt tell you. I could also post lots of pics of sps I have tortured and killed over the years and for the most part I can remember the loss, as well as give a educated guess as to the specific reason for the majority of them.

Interesting. I had originally setup my tank for 80% SPS, but I have come to the conclusion I like the variety of shapes of LPS, and colors of zoa's/ric's.
SPS, well most of it is branching stuff, a few encrusting pieces, and a few tabling pieces. With LPS, there's all sorts of shapes and colors, though there's no denying SPS are beautiful in their own right.
