Rembee's 90 gal. slow build....

Hey great build! You are very talented! And you have certainly done your research, congrats so far!

Staying tuned for more......

This may be a dumb question(my wife actually asked me when i was showing her your tank) How do you feed the fish? Also do you have to take the whole canopy off to add anything like more rock, or corals,or new Fish! Do you just let fish food float or do you dip it in the water? just wondering

The tail of the shrimp came off of a 16 count shrimp which is a pretty big shrimp. The 16 count means 16 shrimp to the pound for those of you who were wondering...lol. And the MB-7 is not really a chemical. It is a beneficial bacteria that aids in the cycling process.

That's the same kind I use. I just throw the whole thing in and let it get NASTY!! When I said chemicals I meant anything that's used as an additive to help a cycle. I've seen lots of stuff that claims a full cycle in 7 days. I've used the mb7 before. I never noticed a difference in the speed it took to complete a cycle. I've even added strait ammonia once. That actually did work, but I don't think I'll try it again. Something about a fully cycled tank in two weeks makes me not trust it.

The stand and canopy look great! What's your future fish list?

Reefer.....it.never was my intent to try and cycle my tank in 2 weeks even though that is what the MB-7 claims right on the bottle. It is my goal to let the tank cycle until Sept before I even try adding my first coral or fish. I just thought that the added bacteria could not hurt. As far as my fish list goes, I'm not sure yet. I do know that I do not want more then 6 to 7 fish in the tank. I'm just taking it slow.

Gandolfe.....My canopy has a piano hinge on the top. If you read back on this page, you can see it in the canopy build. You can also see there, that I have a light tray mounted on draw slides. I am able to slide my lights back or slide them out to the front of the canopy.

You got some awesome woodworking skills. I have one question, I did not see any fans in the canopy. Are there any plans to add some?

Dieselkeeper, thanks, I had a great teacher! As for the fans, I did not want to cut any holes in the sides of the canopy, so I bought some desk top clip on fans and I have them clipped on at the back of the canopy.

Is that the 700 or 1500GPH? I thought the 700 only had one pipe?

Shaggss, It is the 1500 gph glass-holes overflow. Thanks for catching that, I up dated my details....

Yesterday I got my ATS filter up and running in the sump. I also dosed AlgaGen Reef Pods in the fuge. Hopefully they will populate the system. I have also been dosing MB-7 from day 1 to aid in the cycling. And there is a really nasty piece of shrimp in my sump. My water parameters are as follows,

Day 13
Amm. - 0 ppm
Nitrites - 0 ppm
Nitrates - 5 ppm
PSU - 34/S.G. - 1.025
PH - 8.03
Temp - 78.2

Today I installed the Apex controller system and got it up and running. It was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. I'm really going to like this controller. I will try and post some more pics soon.

How ya doing Shaggss. Yes, I'm going to use an ATS. And your right, I have not mentioned it up in til now that I was going to use an ATS. I have read a couple of threads on here and over at another forum on ATS's. Which thread are you referring to? I will post some pics of the ATS soon.

My DIY ATS Filter

My DIY ATS Filter

After trial and error, this is my third build of this ATS. It seems to be working very well. It is powered by a RIO pump with 660 gph of water flow. These pics were taken on day 2 of it's installation. 2 days after these pics were taken, the screen has really started getting a good growth of a brown algae on it. You can see the start of growth in the pics.

Rembee wonderful craftsmanship you have. I'm in mississppi also what's the chance in me getting you to build me a stand and canopy for my tank?

Thank you Bigmuddy, glad you like the stand and canopy. Your not the first person to ask me this question....lol. I wish I had the time, but my job is very demanding. It took me over 4 months just to build this one and I still have to put doors on it....lol. I'm sorry I have to decline but thanks for asking. Where about in MS are you and what kind of tank do you have? I'm in pearl river county.

Hey thanks for the pics and a good design you have there! I am just a very casual reader of ATS but I really like the concept. If the wife ever lets me upgrade then I will definitely incorporate one on my next system.

Are you planning to have lights on both sides? I thought I read that this is better or you need to make it twice the size?

Thanks again!

There is a light on both sides Shaggs. I moved the front light out of the way to allow me to take the pics. And your welcome!

Update....

Hi guys,

Well.....it's time for an update. It's been about 2 weeks since I last posted and today makes day 23 that my system has been up and running. I think I'm finished my cycle. I have been feeding the tank pellets and flakes, twice a day. I really believe that dosing the MB-7 has helped out a lot. I also introduced 3 - 8 oz. bottles of AlgaGen Reef Pods into my fuge about a week ago and I'm starting to see a lot of pods now in the water column. These are my water parameters as of today,

PH - 8.17
Temp - 78.1
Amm. - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0

This past Friday I set up a 20 gal. quarantine tank with water from the main system and replaced it with fresh RO/DI salt water. Yesterday I went and bought 3 yellow tail damsels and they are now in the quarantine tank where they will stay for 4 weeks, unless I notice any problems with them.

When do you guys think I should start adding a few corals?

Here are some pics,

I think you should take the yellow tails back and get some chromis. At some point you are going to want to get nice looking peaceful fish and the yellow tails will reak havoc on them.
