Return Plumbing Help

Hi, I am setting up a new tank that came with the oceanic megaflow kit. The two return lines are 1" barbed. I had planned to use Spa-Flex PVC tubing but cannot find it at Lowes or HD. (I bought this at Lowes a few years ago, but I guess they no longer carry it). Is clear plastic 1" tubing ok to use? I would prefer not to place an internet order for Spaflex. Thanks in advance

For your drain lines I would be sure to use the reinforced (braided) 1" tubing (Lowes carries)- a kink in your tubing could be a disaster otherwise...

If you plan on having a refuge or a light on your sump I suggest something thats not clear in my past experience algae grows in the clear stuff and will cut back on the amount of flow going through it over time

this is a very good point and one of the reasons spaflex is preferred.

FWIW LFS's and places that sell pond supplies often sell opaque (black) hose that can be used for drains. I'd be surprised if Lowes or Home Depot didn't carry it. I know that Marine Oasis usually has it in stock.

I saw spa flex tubing at HD not so long ago in the same section as the vinyl tubing you have. I use clear vinyl; when working with it I heat up a pot of water on the stove, and slowly pull the tubing through it so I can make it soft so the memory out. It is a 1/5 to work with, whereas spaflex is a just wee bit more involved.
