Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Keep your head up Jon, the tank may win the battle but u will win the war if you are persistent. Trust me I'm losing the battle right now with my tank, but I'm not going to let it win the war. You will get through the rough patch and come out better in the end. Good luck my friend.

Thanks Bro. I definitely will. You hang in there too!

Yah doesn't it seem like everything always has to crap out at the same time?
Usually just before you're on the way out of town. :(

You are way to good at this reefing thing to let any of it slow you down too much though.

I'm actually impressed how long and how well you've done for so long without a real P04 tester. The test kits are pretty worthless IME too. The Hanna meters at least give a reading that is actually usable. Just really helps take some of the guess work out of it.

Looking forward to seeing your results.
Reef on!

Thanks for the confidence Bro! Definitely temporary setbacks. I've found that you can always track a change to some stimulus or change... As I reflect, my change was going from dry food only with occasional frozen food to to feeding frozen and dry daily in trying to appease the appetite of all my fish...including wrasses that can be finicky and a copperband, which only seems to like frozen. What's funny, is that all the fish are doing just since stopping and all have fat bellies.....go figure. I believe that this was the bullet that caused things to go haywire. I now have new religion when it comes to PO4 testing.

Here's a current pic...

Wow dude, your coral colours are just POPPING! I went to my LFS today who switched their main display from MH to T5 some months ago. All I can say is that the result is SUPERB. Colours are excellent and no paleness at all. I was expecting to see pale SPS, but no. Wasnt so.

Anyway, how about some SPS MACRO shots? :lmao:

Thanks Bro.... Things are a bit dull in there to my taste right now, but it will be back as soon as I can stabilize everything... I absolutely Love T5s.. You have to closely watch the nutrient levels in the tank to get really deep colors in T5 tanks- in my experience... If your tank is too clean, you will get that pastel look that everyone talks about with T5s..

Amazing...
Have you considered doing a time lapse growth video with all the pics?

Thanks you :) Never did... Wouldn't even know where to start! LOL.. would be nice though!

Thank You.. No updates at this time... The tank has been trying to stabalize after a high PO4 spike that went unoticed for some time.. I'm just letting the tank settle right now.. Within a month I will post some updated pics...

How are you liking the BK SuperMarin 250, Jon ? Not that I really need to ask :)

Although, you never know some BK owners have negative comments too. Considering your recent PO4 troubles that could be the case here.

Im running the BK SM 300 myself and love to hear from other BK users, especially those running the SM ... Guess its akin to the Ferrari owners of the World having their own little fraternity within the car business/hobby.

Best of luck w the PO4s and look forward to hearing from you soon !

Hows that tank doing Jon? Get that P04 on lock yet?

Hey Bro, the tank is still at a low point, but it is due to a serious lack of time with maintenance. PO4 definitely went down after I stopped feeding flake and frozen. The craziest thing is that I thought for sure my CBB would have taken a dive, but to my surprise, he remains one of the healthier fish in the tank wit absolutely no direct feeding from me. Go figure!

It's truly an awesome piece of equipment. Well worth the money spent. However, if I were to be in the market for a skimmer now, I think the Reef Octopus lineup is doing a fabulous job for a fraction of the cost.

I can't really blame the skimmer here. It is only part of the equation when it comes to the removal of organics.

Thanks!

We definitely need an update with pics here...c'mon Jon! Im sure its looking great.

D, I'm struggling right now man... Losing my acros, however my BNs look fabulous. Between my job and other things I have going on... I have really fallen off and quite upset with myself.

Get back on that horse man!!! the colder weather is coming so that might spark some more interest. We all know you can turn the tank around!!! Im rooting for ya

Sorry to here this Jon. Its hard to stay on the ball for that long.....especially when life gets busy. I feel so busy myself I contemplate giving it up but I just can't part with all my corals because I know I won't have the time or ambition to re-aquire them in the future.

Anyway you gotta do what you gotta do (hope you can get back to it but understand if you cant).....relish in the fact that you did accomplish what many people fail or give up on and that is a successful, beautiful SPS reef. You got the pics to prove it :) Congrats.
