rigleautomotive's Tank Pics Thread

Can you show us some pictures of the filtration system? With a description of what all you are using.

I will work on that but if you wish, visit the December TOTM article and all info and photos of equipment listed are there and is still the same as the present.Nothing fancy or special as you will see.I do not buy into the hype of a new product unless my tried and true equipment fails me.I have found thru the years that many of the new products come and go but the better made(somewhat industrial products) keep chuggin along and always find there way back into the hobby.

Got to be the nicest picture of pink lemonade ever! What lense did you use for that?

Thanks Dave.Its a Nikon D 40 body with a Nikon 105 VR Macro
The colors are a bit richer and darker after the last clam spawn and I am seeing the added food as a result was a plus this time around. My system may have been a bit too nutrient deficient before the spawn this time I assume.

I agree, that is an incredible coral, and incredible shot, very nice pic - tack sharp. Beauty of a tank, wow. :eek1:

Thank you for the kind comments
I thought this was a cool shot even though it was not focused all that well. The shrimp is on its way to get the tiny star that is irritating the palythoa in the image

awesome indeed. Ok...now the first one is setosa, 2nd is polletti pink tip? and the third is some type of stylo....is it a named one?

Right on the first. It is the Fra&farmer setosa
the second,is a strawberry shortcake
and the third is the Milka Stylo with lineage back to Germany.

I'm obsessed with your tank man.

In your personal experience, how much of a difference have the 20k MHs made in your sps color-wise. I use Phoenix 14k bulbs and thought I had good color until now when I see how colorful your sps are. I know 20k results in more color over growth but I just thought I'd hear your opinion because I may switch to 20k ;)

That is a really odd growth form on your SSC. Awesome coloration and pics as always!

I should say that this specific coral is a second generation aussie coral so it does not have lineage like you may be used to seeing. The wild aussie colony it came from did STN eventually(even with my best efforts) but over a year and a half period I was able to culture some small fragments that are now mini colonies.I have fragged the new growth and it has proven to be much hardier then the original aussie colony and it also has much better color as each generation is made from a new colorful active growth tip.I have high hopes for it and it resembled the SSC so I call it that.I should have clarified

TY.It is a fine detail that only the advanced, somewhat compulsive people can appreciate but a necessity for me.I had awesome growth and success using XM 10 K for many years but I did not have the colors that Radiums and VHO actinics have made.I have never found another light source that colors acropora like Radium. This covers diodes,T5,T12 or solar.

That being said, phoenix on the right ballast and changed frequently comes as close to German MH as any other I have seen. They are my third favorite bulb with Ushio 20 K being second and Radium at the top.I got some great colors from phoenix when running them on a shallow frag tank as long as I changed them at 5 or 6 months max

Awesome as always Dan.

What is your light cycle and what is the depth of your tank please?.
Do you know what the PAR values are in your tank?.

Thanks
Mo

Its a stock 180 gallon .They are 24" I believe.
I do have a apogee and without going into detail, the par where the big acro colonies live is between 400 and 700 with the bottom of the tank getting between 100 and 300.Light cycle is actinics on 10 am,halides on 11:30 am and halides off 7:00pm actinics off 10:00pm .I just reduced the cycle a bit given I changed out all bulbs recently
