rigleautomotive's Tank Pics Thread

Thanks, I have an auto water changing system, macro harvesting in place and use micron socks ect.
Do you test with your Hanna daily for PO4 or, have you noticed a pattern in PO4 so you check weekly? How fast have you notice the PO4 spike after a feeding?

I sincerely thank you for your time answering.

No problem bro.glad to help

I test a few times a week.I can read the animals at this point and use the checker to confirm.as time passes I see the correlation(between PO4 reading and animal health) clearer and at some point I shall be able to not test much at all.I try to train my eyes to see what the checker tells me

The PO4 spike will usually be noticed a day or two after the heavy feeding ensues(testing right after feeding will give you false readings so I test in the am after the dark cycle and the subsequent time of no food input) and will direct me to lessen feedings and bump up export until I see the acroporas respond and PO4 get in the .00 to .08 range.Seems > then 1.2ppm is the point on my checker where I notice a bit of color loss and less PE.

This method allows me to keep the zoos and lps somewhat happy and my acros with good color, growth and PE

Cool to see but the polluting is not. I had problems after clam spawning and then after massive trochus spawning, a waterchange now may be a good idea.

Thats awesome Dan. Minus the skimmer overflow :)

Yes,thanks.,the fact that the skimmer is designed well enough to handle the load makes me smile. It pulled 2 gallons of skimmate in 2 days.

The corals will feed well today!

That they did.LPS were all puffy and fat, acroporas had Mesentry Filaments for several days.Oddly enough I usually notice a color loss and some negative response on the acroporas when this spawn occurs but this time, all looked as colorful or better when all was said and done.

One mans pollution is anothers food :)
Yes I hear you and in the past I have had issues with cyano and color loss but this time around I diligently changed water,GAC,GFO,filter bags and 50 gallons of sea water and all is well.

I would imagine that like most things in this hobby one gets better with time, you were probably more prepared and were able to either skim more or do a WC before anything got stressed which leads me to believe that the corals were able to eat enough w/o having their ideal water conditions effected.

On that token glad to hear no color loss was experienced. Grats on a spectacular looking tank.

True, but at the same time, you probably won't experience a tank crash for the same reason you did 5 years ago, to me means less chance of failure.

Yep, you cant slack off when it happens. It doesnt take long to go downhill after a spawning like that. I learned from it and figured Id mention something either way. Also everyone neglects their reef tank from time to time. I know your tanks beautiful and obviously you know your stuff being able to keep it that way longterm. Some of the acros you have are not easy to keep colored up n kickin, thats for sure. The pink tip A. abrotanoides for one. I give you props for that. Wish you were closer to buy frags...

My experience. I came home to find my 180 cloudy like very overkalked looking, turned out to be trochus spawning. I did a big waterchange and still had a neg reaction days to weeks later. I also ran polyfiter etc. Ive had clam spawning but it wasnt half as bad/cloudy. Not trying to jinx you lol. Keep up the good work.

Thank you.Got to love the hobby.Never gets old to me for these very reasons
A quick shot of the tank a few days after the spawn and all is well ATM.
