rigleautomotive's Tank Pics Thread

how often do you change your radiums? I just switched mine out for the first time after ~1 year and I cannot believe how much my old bulb had shifted in color on me.

Thanks Dan,

What change did you make to your lighting schedule and over how long will you ramp it up to full?.

That's a lot of blue light. I currently have the same, but have had to be very careful with the light cycle.

No longer then a year and with the ARO ballasts they shift very little in color. The intensity drops off at about 9 months pretty significantly. At a year they are 60% of what they are at there peak.

I took about 3 hours off the total on actinics and two hours off the total on the halides.I will start to ramp it up 1 hour a week or so in about a month.By then the hot summer will be starting to wind down and the corals should be totally acclimated .FYI,I experienced no light shock this time around with the change out.

Dan-
You always have great polyp extension, any tips to getting it?

Two things that I believe really help are very random strong flow and a few hours day cycle and night cycle of quiet flow. The flow is very randomized in this tank as the Tunzes fire with many different sequences and the closed loop fires left to right and from front to back about every 7 seconds to break up the waves created from the Tunzes. Its really very strong and variable throughout. The Closed loop shuts down for two hours daily and nightly with the Tunzes going on night mode with lights out so it is very weak movement during these cycles.this IME promotes strong PE

Of course, perfect stable params do not hurt :)

new additions.

Wow i just went thru all 39 pages and i have to say you have a great tank. Thanks for all the time you've taken to post and share your tank.

wow your pictures are so good. I remember when some else had to take pictures of your tank.....now your a pro. Easy subjects helps too I guess.

Very nice pictures indeed... especially love that last one of your pink lemonade. What are you using for PP and what lens is your go to? Are you strictly setting your WB in camera or in PP as well? Might as well fire another question at you, how long are your tunzes in night mode? I have that feature available on my 6105's, but haven't used it, just leave them going over night.

Thank you.I use CS4 and shoot with a Nikon 105 macro much of the time.I will shoot top downs thru a stock kit lens but most of the images are thru the macro.

I shoot in Raw format with the white balance adjustment at -3 and still need to push the slider in CS4 to 12000k or so for the windex look to go away with still retaining the colors in the subject.

The Tunzes are in night mode while the photo period is dark. They have a simple photo sensor that directs the controller to fire the Tunzes when lights are on.Basically in low flow mode for 13 hours.I also run the closed loop in two slow flow periods also .The flow in the DT is very minimal during the two hour period at night when the Tunzes are also on night mode.IME,this triggers a heavy feeding response in all corals and is very beneficial.

Well they are terrific shots, that is for sure, nice and sharp. I have been using LR3 for my editing, it is nice to have the feature to set your WB to a certain K with a slider or likewise. I might have to try out my tunzes on night mode, never really thought about incorporating it, but you can't argue with your results!
