rigleautomotive's Tank Pics Thread

Hello Dan...

Can you elaborate why you ditched the 454's? I am running (2) Super Actinics and (2) 454's and I am contemplating ditching the 454's too. My blue's seem to get washed out and feel I am not getting the overall deep colors I am looking for and may be attributing it to the 454's?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated......

Thx

Yes sure. The 454's seem to(more or less) color the water blue (not the coral)rather then causing certain strong pigments in corals to develop over time

NICE!!!

how often do you have to cut that green encrusting coral off the over flow?

Thanks. The monti gets cut from the overflows each week when I do the water change. It will shut down that side if I let it go 2 or 3 weeks so it is necessity at the moment and a constant source of frags.:celeb1:

Here are a few chalices (and a micro) I have been growing.I fear I have been bit by the chalice bug and am really like these things.Prior I seemed to be drawn to Acroporas.oh well, another addiction :twitch:

hot dang........that FTS looks better than the one in the TOTM article.

Keep it up! So many people who get TOTM fall off the planet once they reach that status....its nice to see that you are in it for the long haul and still enjoy to share information and photo's......we all appreciate it.

Thank you.Dave it was always different with me .I am the guy that feels actual pain when my reef is not happy.Seriously I am too obsessive with the whole process and always have been.Being in long term and starting to learn chemistry and biological processes that I never truly understood (after many college dollars spent) and all from this crazy hobby.Understanding measurements of light and spectrum, playing with diodes long before the general public knew what they were, again from the hobby,Then I meet hundreds of good friends in the process and many here on RC it becomes something that is hard to quit on. I knew I was hooked til the end.

Dan,

Whenever I see nice tanks I'm always curious about feedings and additives. Is the tank fed heavy, and do you dose anything at all?

The water quality of Dan's skimmate is better than my DT. I could use it for water changes.

ROFLMAO

beautiful pictures Dan - thanks for sharing

Thank you bro and glad to see you are still tuned in after all this time

I do feed heavy and more importantly export heavy. If you are not doing large 20--25 % water changes(strong wet skimming,etc...) ,following my feeding regimen will get you in trouble.I do feed heavier when I notice my Phos is low on the hanna and acro colors are light but also will reduce when I notice some color loss and a correlation of higher than optimal phos on the hanna.
with me careful daily observation is the key.

No additives, just mg is added to water change water to bump up the tank accordingly. No bac,zeo or other probiotics. No AA either.I did experiment with all of the above but returned to my old school gig

Dan, what salt do you prefer that mixes well to your tank? I've been an IO/RC guy for years but thinking of changing to Red Sea Coral Pro to keep from having to test my water change water so much. I'm bad at testing, one of my flaws.

I like your idea of big weekly water changes. The best tanks I've ever seen have all employed this.
