Tim, you're a funny @$$ dude. That is the coolest thing I've seen on this site thus far!

It looks like a stainless boat steering wheel that you could pick-up from a boat supply store (West Marine, etc.).

Again, that's hilarious Tim! :lolspin:

Thanks Paul! My wife thinks I am nuts. What started as getting a reef tank has, in her eyes, gotten out of hand....however she doesnt hesitate showing it off to her friends!!!

Here are some pics of what went into making the wall panels:

First I had steel panels sheared to the sizes of my door and wall sections. Screws were added to temporarily secure panels in place

Yeah, well, that means she likes it then. :D That or she wants everyone else to see how "nuts" her husband is. It makes for a good case down the road. :p I think it's beyond cool and very original. I wish I had come up with some of the ideas you have. You sure have put a lot of thought into your build and it really shows. Plus you're doing what really counts... having fun! Awesome! :D

Next I had strips cut to frame the panels. These would be drilled a size larger the the carriage bolts.

For the port hole I had a steel panel, the door panel, and a wood backing CNC machined:

For mounting the frame pieces, I simply driled one size under 1/4" into the wall framing, applied some adhesive to the carriage bolt, and hammered them in.

The finishing touch was a hand wheel off an old surface grinder from my workplace which was cleaned up and painted the same as the wall panels

2 weeks and it was complete!

Wait. I thought you were already there? :p

Tim always goes far and above on all his projects! Tim and I have been friends for many years, and I can confirm for all you guys he is insane! But, that works out great, as you get a bad *** build!

Just wondering what else he had up his sleve.

It sounds like he keeps you on your toes. ;)

I just showed my wife everything and she said, "wow, that's VERY geeky." I told her how much I loved Tim's BK color scheme and steel sub door and she said "no surprise, you're a closet geek." :D Aaaah... the love of a wife.

SuperTs, your fish room is awesome! I imagine it is also water tight just like in a submarine:) No need to worry flooding the rest of the house if something leaks inside the fish room.

That tank is awesome!

May I suggest painting the bulkhead fittings with black krylon fusion? Or is it the light making them stand out?

I can't wait to see this tank 'scaped!

dantimdad
Thanks for the advice. We used the black fusion paint and it all turned out great! :)

I'm sure Tim will have pics up soon!

Thanks Flavio. I've seen systems you've plumbed in the past, they are second to none! Cant wait to see what you do with mine on saturday!

I wish Flavio had a store front. Because It's not the same at ORG.
Your in good hand with "Flavio".

Did you make a few light passes over the flange until there was no gray left? Was the black fusion a matte finish paint?
