Rimless or eurobracing?

I have been out of the hobby for a few years and when I left the hobby euro braced tanks were the hot design for tanks. Upon my return to the hobby the rimless tank is whats popular.

I ordered a 150 gal with euro bracing and today I got a call from the salesman and he suggested the rimless design. He told me he would be cutting the glass tomorrow and so i had some time to decide.

My question to the reefcentral crew is what are the pro's and cons on rimless tanks and is there any benefit in the euro braced tank over the rimless or vice versa? Any info and especially personal opinions based on experience would be appreciated.

My tank is eurobraced... its a 4x2x2. I've only had this large of a tank for a few months now, so up to this point I would say the pros would be you can splash around with a magnet cleaner or whatever without worrying about spilling over the sides, and you can make waves and the water will stay put.

One con I've noticed so far is its a little hard to stick the suction algae clip to the inside of the tank without ending up with half of your forearm in the tank.

Mine has black trim, but I definitely like the look of a rimless thats for sure.

The size is 150 gals 48Lx24Tx30W. I had it all planned out for euro bracing, but if I go rimless I will have to rethink my plumbing scheme. I have always been a fan of the sea swirl and so of course i can drill holes to complement them, but the votech mp 40's are interesting on a rimless set up. I am undecided.

Just go euro to be safe. My tank is 72 x 30w x 24T and it's euro. The rimless tanks are nice but depends on dimensions and glass thickness. My fray tank which is 20x20x10 is rimless and it's looks cool. But some brazing is better

We live in earthquake central...eurobracing is key on larger tanks. Just think if the frequency was such that the water got to sloshing as a nice wave. That is like, 1500lbs smashing against the side with nothing to hold it but a bead of silicone? I wouldn't trust it myself.

You cant go wrong with a rimless tank.

I would say it depends on if the tanks is glass or acrylic, I have a 36x24x24 made from 24mm or .95" thick acrylic thats rimless.

With acrylic I am much more confident with the structural integrity of the seams, the bond is much much stronger than glass+silicone. With such thick acrylic the seam is a non issue, especially with a 90 gallon tank.

Im setting up a 48x30x20 Rimless Starphire with 1/2" glass. You guys are scaring me!!

I contacted CadLights because I was so nervous about it being rimless with these dimensions. They said that there is no problem at all... With that being said, is the tank builder held responsible if the tank does crack, or seam splits?

Who usually covers the damages that occur? Builder, or Owner? And im not talking 3+ years down the road. I mean if the tank splits in the first year or less.

guys, I would like to thank you for your input. I have decided to go with my first mind and stick with the eurocracing. I cant fathom mopping 150 gallons of water off the floor. Safety first I always say.
