Hey guys,

I went into a couple LFS today and one of them was REEF AQUARIUM across from exotic aquarium on bird road. One of the nicest things in there that i found were blue zoos.... nice bright blue with a darker mouth area. I asked him how much for a frag he had of about7-10 polyps, he wanted ........... 110.00, i find that ridiculous, he had bigger frags with like 20-30 polyps and he wanted 400 and something ....

now i like exotic colored zoos as much as everybody, but i think thats just robbery...

needless to say i didnt purchase them,

just looking for feedback on what you think they are worth...

and a heads up to anyone who wants to bend over and buy them

The zoanthids are worth what you would pay for them. Someone might go in and buy those zoanthids right away at that price, while others would think the price is to much. Miami is.. well.. Miami and the prices always seem much higher there at LFS then in Broward LFS for what it's worth.

ps. I think every LFS has some coral that everyone seems to like that isn't for sale, it's usually a very rare coral or it's in the show tank.

over the weekend i bought two colonies of palys from aqua mart on us one neat sunset, when i went back a two days ago the owner was there. I wanted to buy two other colonies, the owner told me double the price the other employee told me. I was really ****ed, especially because his prices where through the roof.

Yeah..saw the same zoas..looked really cool, but really expensive. It seems like they have really good deals on some of the coral sometimes and not so good other times. The zoas always seem to go for a high price. The Zero-Edge in there looks great though.

and henry at reef aquarium prices all his corals like they are the only one on the planet. a simple orange yuma for 300 dollars? a scolymia for 500 dollars come on bro

Did the blue zoos look like the Tubs blue zoos or something else?

ya, id say they were close to the tubs blue... but i could get a much better deal online, if it wasnt for shipping...

yea the Zero Edge looks sick!!!!
and i agree he does price them like they are the only ones left... quite outrageous...

Funny thing is I was at reef aquarium today as well and picked up a leopard wrasse for 10.00. I think he was busy or something and didnt realize the price he told me. I havent seen them cheaper than 26.00 anywhere????

Thing with LFS is the price is all subjective. My wife went to exotic aquarium and was sold a simple toadstool leather for 65.00!!!

Why are we bashing the local LFS's? I don't think this is the place to do that.

If you don't like their prices don't shop there. Maybe they had to pay high prices just to get certain items. I haven't seen blue zoos in a store in a long time. And it is hard to get stuff like that sometimes.

I don't think that they were Tubs..didn't have the brown around the outside the I usually see when ppl call them Tubs..maybe those aren't Tubs.

The blue ones come in at Big Al's from time to time. Normally, they are small frags that you have to look for. I picked up 2 frags for 10.

the leopard wrasse you bought for $10 probably wasn't an african leopard wrasse...the african's are the ones that cost more money. i picked up a normal leopard for 12 at a store up in broward.

I have been checking them out for sometime now and couldnt find one for under 26.00 and that was online. But I did see an african leopard for 36.00 last week at house of fins. Maybe your right........I just havent seen any that cheap.

iv'e seen 2 stores in broward with the leopard wrasses for $12. and then they have the african leopards for like $35ish.

also on the note of zoas...10 polyps for $110 is really only like $11 per polyp...which depending on what it is could actually be a deal. thats about the going rate for tubs online. some polyps go for about $80/polyp. It's like cars...the pretty nice ones are more expensive! aka porsche, lexus, mercedes. the normal ones are cheaper...honda, toyota...pink corals will always cost more than brown as not too many people want brown and everyone wants pink. just an example.

i think i got the same ones from an lfs the other day ( he probobly got them from same wholesale)

i paid 4 bucks per polyp
atleast 20 polyps came out to 70 bucks

which would be about the typical markup on corals or anything in the market for that fact...that's just the way retail works...

one day you'll see a coral you fall in love with and the person selling it will be like $200 for a little frag...but you want it bad enough that you'll save up the 200 and buy it. supply and demand.
