Ritteri anemone

Well day 5 and we have gone backwards. Got home from work to wind the nem inside out again , with a slime all over everything and the water had gone the colour of tea. No idea why . Anyway stripped all the water out dosed cipro and keeping fingers crossed again. Things were going so well :(. Actually Marty he hasn't had its fish finger in a while so could well be sulking ....I'll hang one outside the tank .
 
Day 6 . Norman nem looks definetly on the mend again. I thought it was inflated before , but got home to find him filling the treatment tank. Only got 20 liter treatment. No way would I get a bigger one passed off. So I'm sticking with the program I'm gonna go for the 10 days full treatment as suggested by Orion.

day 8 . Well the infection is doing well but unfortunately my nem has mysteriously wrapped itself up in the power head ?? .......... Aargh , you guys worry to much , but I told you norm was filling the treatment tank, I've moved it farther back now though . Well , think it's nearly time to add him back into the display . So I hope he keeps on going without the cipro. While norm is on the up , paulette (the platinum clown) has got something growing on her, not sure if it's the stress of missing her home. It's like a very long translucent string ?? Anyone know what this might be ???

Was that supposed to be a joke? Do a quick search of the forums for mags like yours that have been blended by powerheads. This is a real risk in large display tanks. In a small QT like yours, it's a near certainty. Don't think that you have somehow proved something because you got lucky (so far) this time. The necessary precaution here -- I.e. An eggcrate divider -- is such a minimal burden that it is simply irresponsible not to do it.

Agreed. Powerheads kill many many mags, it's very unfortunate. It's one reason why so many stay away from anemones altogether, the nematocysts do not play nice with other tank inhabitants. (besides anemonefish) In your QT, it's just sad for your anemone, but in your DT it's a tank crash....

Keep up the good work and put in a piece of egg crate to be safe! Best of luck to you and Norm.
 
no problem and yes I was joking, sorry it's not to your taste , what I had already done was wrapped clear Perspex around the inside of the powerhead so that all the water is sucked from the back of the powerhead giving only a laminar flow to the front . No possibility for the nem to be sucked into the powerhead, but your right people may read this and think I was winging it. I wasn't
 
Often, Magnifica follow flow. If the PH take water in from the back, this is where the anemone end up. It really make no different if the water enter the PH from the back or the side, if your anemone go for a walk, and you are not home, you will get anemone soup.

Have more detail on this "string"?

Position?
Is it breaking off and recurring?

Some really nasty clown ailments can appear as "strings".
 
Sorry for the small gap in how I'm getting on with treatment info. So day 9 and 10 norm was still fully inflated and looking much better no gapping mouth or any of those black pellets coming out of it. So on the night of day 10 I put norm back in the main display . He's not deflated again , the clowns and crabs immediately made a break for it and are nicely settled back home. It's now been 2 days and again everything is looking good and norm seams to be lovin the light more than normal, I'm feeding him very small amounts but more often than normal ( I normally feed twice a week, I've upped it to 3 in the short term), but again still early days. Again I am sure without orions treatment plan , norm would have been a gonna so thank you everyone for advice it is very much appreciated and particularly Dave and Orion. I'll keep you posted if he makes it for the long hall.
On the clown fish it's more difficult to see now back in the anemone , their is a small brown blotch just below the fishes fins ( in human terms behind her armpit) the string has gone that looked like it was attached to this blotch, but the blotch remains, it's not a sore and the skin does not look perferated. Fish is swimming normally and no respitory distress, as I said before its difiult for me to know if this is anything, she was behaving abnormally which drew my attention to her, but I am not sure if this was due to nem being out of the tank. Again any help is appreciated.
