Rochester, NY rated best place to buy a home in the USA

That's awesome but very weird to see Utica on there as #3. I'm guessing they are only putting numbers together and nothing else. Crime rates, employment opportunities, retention, population pockets, are some of the overall factors on why someone would move there.(I know nothing of Rochester so that statement does not apply.)

I love my city..North Tonawanda,I hate the fact that taxes are about double in my town compared to surrounding areas :(

i would have to say it would be the worst place to buy a home.

Not true and i actually take offense to that statement. I was born and raised here and besides the city's "hood" its not a bad place at all. Name one city that doesnt have a "hood".

The list is meant for home values, its not a list of the best cities to live.

I suggest not taking offense at any negative statements posted.
Think about the credibility of such posts.

Besides, Utica has Matt's Brewery

Brutal. Our last house was in a village which meant added taxes for no added benefits IMO. New house has higher taxes but the new town treats its residents VERY well. CNY ain't so bad y'all :D

My previous statement was to get personal. I was born and raised in the City of Utica.(Cornhill was a tough place to live) I would not move back there but the surrounding areas are very nice. I don't think there will ever be a "perfect" place to live but I must say, I would take snow storms over hurricans, tornadoes, monsoons, forest fires, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. I'd have to see we are all pretty darn lucky to be living in such a neutral zone in terms the weather and earth.

Are we talking Greater Rochester Area or Rochester Proper? Either way I love Rochester! Its a hip artsy vibrant city/area. Not a dying relic of a forgone industrial area. I would pic the Roc as one of the nicer small cities I've ever been to. If I had my druthers I would probably live there but my work and family situation won't allow for it.

In the process of trying to purchase a home in the Rochester suburbs (Greece, Spencerport, etc.), and homes are coming off the market just days after they are listed. Don't want to rush into buying a house, but we feel if we don't jump on something it could be gone the next day.

Im only speaking inner city all surrounding areas are great. If i were to buy a house again i believe it would be in spencerport or hilton.

If your instincts feel the house is right, it's in your budget, and there is no doubt. Pull the trigger!

You can rely on the home's inspection to help identify any potential pitfalls. Make an offer with that contingency if you have any reservations. Get it right the first time!

I've been through tense situations in my day. Board exams, wedding, birth of children etc. I mean this whole heartedly, with the exception of the death of my brother, moving day from our first home to our current home, was THE MOST stressful day of my life. I'm NEVER moving again. The whole process, selling, buying, moving (with fish tanks) is a NIGHTMARE!

Maybe its just me.......
