This was just brought to my attention.

Let me rephrase here, IF for some strange reason I needed to order anything from pa, I was wanting to try this food...
BUT with such a wonderful store as Salty Critter close by, I Rarely (if ever) need to order from pa!
Now that the Critter stocks this food too, I really have no need to order from pa because I would (of course) be buying it from Saltys. :D

Rod's food is made local here at Rod's Reef. I use it and love it. My fish, softies, and LPS go crazy for it. I still use cyclopseez for sps.

Engine7 it is great stuff i got feeding response from my frogspawn for the first time ever yesterday with it that is a win in my book

Do you make the drive from Wooster or do you get it shipped? I am debating placing an order and having them ship to me.

i drive its not that far and its totally worth the trip up always find some corals i want to buy but they are great with shipping as well
if you have never been to salty critter you should go they are awsome tons of livestock

$20 for 6ounces?? That's insane..............90% of all fish will eat anything & softies & LPS don't need to be fed. Of course there are a few exceptions like dendros & goniporas, ect.

I've had all the common LPS & they got enormous with no feedings. The only LPS I have now is a common pogaga cup that hasn't been directly fed in 7 years.

That aside, for $20 you can make a fresh seafood mush that will last for months. The fish & corals won't know the difference.

You can buy three 7oz. packs of Ocean Nutrition frozen foods for under $20.

Nothing against Rod's food or any other product, but ignore the hype & save yourself some money.

Here are the ingredients:

Shrimp, scallop, oyster, clam, Squid, octopus, enriched brine, krill, mysis, grouper, Red Plankton, broccoli, carrots, colliflower, Red Nori, green nori, selco, garlic, Golden pearlsTM (all sizes) DTs oyster eggsTM, nutra rose powder, fresh rotifers, fresh baby brine.

I'm sure you could buy all of these and mix them up cheaper than $20 for 6oz but you would have to make a pretty good size vat of the stuff. Since you don't believe in feeding your corals, the more expensive items in the mix are a waste to you and cheaper food is what would make sense for you.

thats only about half of the true list, plus it is all in the right amounts, its not like he just dumps it all in a blender and chops it up, he adds things a certain time to keep a consistency to it and doesnt make a big mush out of it

I'll say it again & then I'm done.........ignore the hype. Everything you guys just posted does nothing to back up the price of this product.

MJAnderson,
Do you really believe each & everyone of these ingredients is needed if you do feed your LPS? If so why..........because someone that sells commercial food told you so? Please explain to me why an LPS will do better getting fed Rob's food instead of just giving it some raw shrimp or other fresh fish.

matty,
So why do the corals or fish care if the food has a binder or it's a mush. Is there some study that tells me this group of foods is better than something I can mix up myself?....... please link me to it. Who deemed what the right amounts of each ingredient should be, or what ingredients are needed in the first place other than the manufacurer?

You believe it's better because someone on a reef thread got all excited about this food & told you so..............geez, we even have some guy from Chicago on our local board telling us how wonderful this food is.

Who says if you mix it yourself it has to be mush.........you can do it anyway you want.

LIke I mentioned before if you want convenience, there are other commercial foods at 1/3 the cost.

Just trying to offer some advice.........everyone can do what they please, but I just don't get the defense or excitment over a food that's been around for years & is just packaged differently.

This is no different than those people that hype that PE mysis over any other mysis on the market. It costs more..........that's the only difference. I compared protein content, ect. & it was all the same...........the fish didn't care.

the reason i say that is because some fish dont like mush, some corals do but i have fish that wont eat anything small and want large chunks, sure you can get away with feeding coral chunks of shrimp or seafood, believe me i cant justify the price of it either but it is a good product, im sure i could make the same thing, sell it to people for half the price and still turn a decent profit, i agree with what your saying on the price but it is an all in one food that people can put in the tank and feel comfortable knowing its feeding everything in the tank i guess

To each his own. I spent the $20 on this stuff and I like it. I do not like the price, but thought I would give it a shot. I will mix in my usual flakes, mysis, etc. and it will take me 6 months plus to go through the package of Rod's. It gives me some variety to what I usually feed and that suites me just fine.

As for a study, sorry but you have to do you're own research. My study takes place everytime I feed my fish and they go nuts for it. I do not always need a study to justify what I do with my tank. Afterall, it is FOOD. You drop it in and the fish eat it.

As for the argument that this is all hype or we are overpaying-No one forced us to buy it. No one is forcing anyone to buy it. If the price fits in your budget and you want to try it, go for it. If it is too much for you, that is fine too. This thread was started by someone who just want to make everyone aware that SC now sells it. I do not think there was any subliminal advertising used.

Good luck with whatever yo decide to feed your fish!
