your argument is that rods clown's might be a month or 2 older & thats why they already have black?

How about this little guy... I've got many more pics if you'd like lol. He's even younger than yours judging by the fact it's middle bar is JUST starting to come in.

& if cyclopeeze was the cause of the color then why wouldnt the color of a regular onyx deepen when fed cyclopeeze?

Now please folks... this is a thread dedicated to the wonderful onyx rod breeds & the people that love them. Not a thread to argue about who's are better. If you like someone else's onxy start a new thead

I would disagree with that statement...The food more than likely does help, but I wouldn't say that is the ONLY reason....

(i agree jov)

Any clown with orange pigments will deepen with color when given color additives. I could care less who's clowns are better or not. The Onyx Perculas that Rod raises are very nice nobody can disagree.
What I do disagree with is the false information about why they are colored the way they are.
They are not a vibrant orange because Rod's pair spawned them. They are that way because of what Rod fed them when he raised them.

Go buy a pair of vibrant orange ORA clowns and breed them. Your not going to end up with the same color unless you feed them the right foods.

you gotta lot of BAALZ saying that! lol....kiddding....
i still have to disagree, i would say it helps, but just like every other animal out there, genetics is also a factor

no way i have seen first hand all of the ORA babies and they dont look like rods the shape of the rods clown is different and the color is due to genetics im sure of it
the Orange in a ORA clown is not like a Rod clown
have any of you seen the pictures in this thread???

still anybody could feed their clowns rods food they wont end up lookin like rods fish
Embryoguy has multiple onyx and likes the genetics of the rodonyx
do you think they are different embryoguy?

I was not trying to argue whose are better, just wondering why they were so expensive.........touchy touchy. I never said his fish weren't nice, they are.

jovreefer- yes the black may come in earlier in his, so what, does that affect the coloration later?

My statement about his food containing Cyclopeeze is wrong.

The ingredients list nutra rose powder. That is what is coloring up the clowns. Granted this has nothing to do with the amount of black just the deepness of the orange.
Nutra rose powder is Astaxanthin which is also found in Cyclopeeze

turnermnk they arent that expensive maybee mom and pop places sell onyx clowns for less but find a clown as nice as a rodonyx for close to 50 bucks, i dont think you can if you do tell me about it and i will buy some
what would be a price you like for these clowns?

True enough...

Sure, they are great looking fish, the color up quickly, and they tend to be hardy, but does that really make them BETTER than any other fish? Just different.

no i think a fish that will color up is known to be hardy and is great looking would be better than a fish that you have no idea where it came from or what it will turn into
also they are not overpriced.
enough with the naysaying this is forr rodonyx lovers not haters
GO Hate on another thread start a i think rodonyx are overpriced thread

I never said they were over priced, Rod does good work and he works hard to provide quality fish. He reserves the right to charge whatever he feels is fair. It's roughly $150 per pair, right, or is that per fish? I do agree that it is very cool to know exactly who and where your fish came from.

I'm just saying...they're all gorgeous, rodonyx or not, and does it REALLY make his fish better just because the black comes in earlier?
