Well, I wish this had turned out better, but it's good enough I dont mind sharing it. Something weird is going on with my scope and imaging train right now, everything has a slight blur to it, so I've lost all the really fine detail, arg.

Rosette Nebula - About 5000 light years away and 50 light years across!

Wow. Just trying to conceptualize something that's so vast it takes light 50 years to get from one side to another. And so far away it takes light 5000 years to get from there to here. The universe is huge and we are SO insignificant.

It is crazy, isnt it?

The Andromeda Galaxy, which I posted pictures of a month or two ago, is 200,000 light years across. What really made that sink into my head is that it's tilted towards us, so basically the light from the side of the galaxy nearest us that we are seeing, is 200,000 YEARS newer than the light from the far side as we are seeing it. As you look from the "front" of the galaxy to the "back" of it, you're literally going back 200,000 years in time.

What did you use for a setup here? I've been looking into getting a telescope to take some photos with, but haven't really gone too far with it... it's quite pricey!
